Hanahaki disease is a disease caused by one-sided or unrequited love. The victim usually coughs up flowers and petals while a flower grows inside the said victim's lungs, until they suffocate and, unfortunately, die.

Of course, there are ways to avoid this death, in other words, there are ways to treat this disease.

One of them being surgical removal of the flower growing in one's lungs. However, doing that, the victim's love for the person that caused this will disappear. It is believed that the victim's memory of this person will also disappear as well as their ability to love again. So, many refuse this treatment.

Another way to get rid of this disease is the person returning the victim's feelings. These feelings have to be romantic, strong friendship feelings are not enough, thus the victim will not be cured.

The victims of this terrible disease often preferred the latter treatment, if you could even call it that.

The hanahaki disease is believed to be fictional since not many people have suffered from said disease.

It was supposed to be fictional.

So why?

Why was Kenma coughing up blood and petals?

Why was his chest hurting like hell?

What even lead to this point?!

He didn't like Kuroo, his childhood best friend, did he?

Who was he kidding, of course, he did!

He loved him since their eyes met - he didn't realize at first, of course, he was just a kid at the time!

But... Kuroo didn't love him back. He didn't return his feelings. He loved someone else, for god's sake, and the fact was obvious!

Heck, the rooster head captain, the one the pudding head boy loved so much, started dating someone else, there's no way Kenma's feelings are mutual.

If they were, the older boy wouldn't start dating someone else. Kenma wouldn't be coughing up flower petals, he wouldn't be suffering!

And yet.. here he was.. suffering in silence, with no one to lean on.
