Maybe a month passed since Kenma started avoiding Kuroo. He wasn't counting anymore.
His body started getting weeker and weeker. He couldn't play volleyball anymore. And, even though he didn't really enjoy doing it, he was still upset.
He was upset because he lost the only connection he had with his best friend.
Breaking the news to the team wasn't easy but the former setter was glad it was over with.
Nekoma lost their heart and brain - as they liked to call him - but they were going to lose him however you looked at it. It was easier this way than him just stop showing up to practice one day and soon they figure out he has died.
Right?
That's what Kenma told himself, anyway.
He figured he didn't have much time left. Breathing got harder for him, not to mention, the petals he was coughing up increased with each time he did so.
And.. it wasn't just the petals, he started coughing up flowers too, not too long ago.
He knew that it will be his time to go soon. It was obvious... Well.. at least to him.
Anyway, it was on a cold night when it happened..
Kenma had woken up with a start. He didn't even have the time to check the time as he was suffocating. He couldn't breathe no matter how much he gasped for air.
It truly hurt.
Worst then it did before.
It took him longer then usual to figure out what was going on. With all the coughing and gasping for air, he could barely think straight.
But... it didn't take a genius to figure out he was dying.

A much younger Kenma was standing behind his mother, gripping onto her leg and dress, which reached down to her knees. A child was standing across from the two, his mother by his side, too. He seemed hesitant to approach Kenma.
With a little push of his mother, he walked up to Kenma, causing him to hide even more behind his poor mother.
“Hi, I'm Kuroo Tetsuro.” The child introduced himself before continuing. “What's your name?” He asked, curiously.
“Kenma... Kozume Kenma..” He spoke quietly.
Kuroo tilted his head, having not heard what Kenma had said.
“Sorry, could you repeat that? I couldn't hear you.”
“I'm Kenma.. Kozume Kenma..” He repeated, a little louder this time but still rather quiet.
Despite this, Kuroo heard what he had said and he grinned.
“It's nice to meet you, Kenma! Hope we can be friends.”
Kenma wondered how the other had so much energy, yet that energy was maybe a slightly bit contagious, causing him to step out of his hiding spot.
