Chapter 2
@Felicia room, on the bed
“I can't believe mom intentionally didn't mention it while I was around, I feel so left out, May. Ain't I part of the family any more” Audrey complained bitterly.“Don't say such ridiculous things again, and you are our kid sister and nothing can change that” May answered seriously.
“Mom had her reasons, she didn't want you to listen to Grandma's sarcastic remarks about having a new baby at home, I guess. And I think mom did the best with that, okay baby” Felicia said while hugging Audrey.
“Am not a baby, stop hugging me like one, Licia” Audrey complained and moved away from Felicia's arms.
Felicia laughed shortly before saying" At least not any more because we have another baby coming, but you are still my baby” She continued teasing Audrey.
“But girls, seriously, grandma has got to stop. If she isn't comfortable, she has to go” May said seriously.
“No girls… Mrs Baker who stood at the entrance to the room chose that moment to interrupt.
“Mom…” Audrey called out to Mrs Baker, who walked briskly to them and sat on Felicia's bed.
“Girls, she is your grandmother regardless of what she does to me, okay. I never want to hear you say ill of her, especially you May” Mrs Baker ordered.
“Sure, Mom” May said quietly even though she still looked like she wouldn't stop anyway.
“ I was expecting a unison, girls” Mrs Baker rolled her eyes and folded her arms, still expecting an answer.
“Yes Mom” the girls said in unison.
“Now, can we all match to the kitchen to get dinner ready?
“Mom…” Audrey whined.
“Baby.” Mrs Baker replied while Audrey's elder sisters left the room quickly with Audrey and Mrs Baker followed behind slowly.

“Mom, Wheat again?” Felicia complained in the kitchen.
“Yes Licia. You have any problem with that” Mrs Baker asked while eyeing Felicia.
“No. Not at all” Felicia replied.
“That's perfect” Mrs Baker smiled weirdly. “Anyone else who has a problem with Wheat and Egusi soup here?” Mrs Baker inquired.
“ Here, Mom” May said and raised her right hand a little above her head.
“Of course, you May. How could I forget you ever?” Mrs Baker said sarcastically.
“I just don't like solid food, hmm… Just…” May said, thinking of how to tell her Mom the other ideas.
“Sure. After dinner is ready, just don't eat. I don't need to tell you what happens next” Mrs Baker began to laugh creepily afterwards and stop a minute later.
“Mom, why can't I get optimistic with you? I'm considering eating something else, well that's if you don't mind” May suggested as she looked at her sisters like she was asking them to put in some good words on her behalf.
“Well, that means you either go to bed hungry or you go grounded. You can choose any sweetheart, ain't I nice Licia?” Mrs Baker replied May.
“Sure Mom” Felicia answered slowly as she was tired of her Mom and May's banters.“Would you get to cook the soup now, May?” Mrs Baker shouted.
“Yes, Mom” May replied and began cooking the soup. Mrs Baker leaves the kitchen and the cooking to the girls.
Two hours later
The family, excluding the girls who were to serve everyone food, were all seated. Audrey brought a bowl of water, and gave a wrap of wheat to each person on the table and placed theirs on the table, Felicia served the portion of soup on the plates and passed each one to every member, then May blessed the food before the girls settled down to eat.“ Sweetheart, how was work?” Mr Baker asked first.
“Table manners please” Audrey's grandma responded before Mrs Baker could respond. The silence continued till they all finished eating and the girls cleared the plates and bowl to the kitchen and cleaned the table.
They all moved to their bedroom respectively until 12am when the family gathers to pray together, it was mandatory in the Baker's home.
@ Mr&Mrs Baker bedroom
“Sweetheart, I will have a shower first” Mrs Baker told Mr Baker and got into the bathroom while Mr Baker laid on their bed with both hands behind his head.
After a few minutes, Mrs Baker joined him in her pyjamas, expecting her husband to notice her, but he didn't, lost in his thought, apparently. Mrs Baker stroked his hair twice before he realized his wife was already back from the bathroom.
He released his hands from his head and placed them by his side as he sat up on the head, Mrs Baker's right-hand casualty dropped on the bed?
“Darling, what's it? I have told you not to worry about Mother's antics, okay” Mrs Baker looked at him with pleading eyes.
“It's not just about you, it's about our children too. Although they act all grown, they're still kids to me, I just don't want all these to get to them negatively. At least not just yet.” Mr Baker said, with concern laced with every word he spoke.
“I understand. I hope it doesn't, but we can't keep them in the dark forever because this will all come around, they need to know all of these. I want to protect them too, but we can't do that forever darling” Mrs Baker said to him.
“Sure, I will just stop thinking of it and go take a shower” He said and stood up, walking to the bathroom.
