CATS POV:
"What's up?" Isla asks me whilst moving her hips to the pounding music, "Are you looking for someone?"
I move my glare from the door that Kyle just frantically exited back to her."No. It's just- Kyle left." I yell, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion.
A flash of genuine concern crosses her face but it is quickly replaced with her usual enthusiastic grin."It's all good, he probably just needed some fresh air. He's always complaining about the close proximity in here."
I nod slowly but can't help but feel something's wrong.
"I'm going to go check up on him, oka-". My sentence is interrupted by a giggling Isla being whisked away into the sea of temperamental teenagers leaving me standing alone.
I sigh and contemplate over whether to follow Kyle or go after Isla.
As I'm standing there, a drunken person pushes into me and I stumble forward. I shoot the staggering man a death glare and fix up my dress. He snorts and turns back to his hysterical friends. I roll my eyes and turn away.
After a moment of standing in one spot, unthinkably staring in disgust at a couple ramming each others throats on a couch, I snap back to reality.
Ah, fuck it.
I head towards the front door where a pale Kyle hastily exited mere minutes ago.
I place my hand on the handle after having made my way across the floor
through the sweating bodies and hesitate. He could be making out with a girl out here for all I know. I shouldn't be invading his privacy like this.
But if he is, that girl will find a fist in her face, belonging to me.
That's sad, I'm becoming the possessive girlfriend and that proposes quite a problem considering;
a) I'm not his girlfriend.
b) I'm starting to wish I was.
The cold air hits my exposed legs, sending shivers up my body as I swing open the door stepping out into the night. I haven't realised until now that I've got a massive headache and my cheeks are hot and flustered.
I must look like a right mess at the moment.
But don't we all during or after parties?
Well, from the books I've read and the movies I've seen, they do.
My eyes adjust to the dim streetlights out in the dark yard and realise it's almost completely empty. There's a couple leaning against a tree, making out and a few people looking a little sick but that's pretty much it.
A movement on the concrete path to my right catches my attention and I quickly make my way towards it.
Now I know you're all thinking; what a stupid thing to do. Walk out into a deserted street in the middle of the night with hardly any light and it's bound to be a typical horror movie cliché where I get kidnapped or brutally murdered with an axe.
Hey, I've consumed a little alcohol, I'm not thinking as straight as I usually would being my paranoid self.
I hear a few deep muffled voices and my eyes strain to see further into the dark as I slowly walk towards them.
I squint and make out a small park a few metres away. A creepy swing set is creaking in the lazy breeze and a slide is situated next to it. The whole thing looks pretty dull and gloomy, but I am from New York where everything's "five thousand and three hundred lights in every park because we can't risk any more mugging."
