Eyes. They're said to be the windows to someone's soul. At least, a ton of people say so, but he couldn't exactly tell what was going on people's minds most of the time.

Not that he thought about it, he couldn't really look directly at people's eyes either.
The combination of not being able to read people's true intentions, mixed in with the intense feeling that people were always looking at him was just a recipe for disaster. People's gazes were just too much, and it just worsened each passing day, making him feel more and more ill every time.

...Let's just change the subject.

There was a rumor about people's eyes too. Those with "ringed pupils" would have a connection to "divinity", or so was told. It made sense though, considering Arceus' main creations- the deities of time, space, and even itself -were depicted with such pupils.

He figured his eyes were pretty close to that description.

It made him think sometimes actually. Would that have meant he was chosen, somehow? It would be some sort of honor if that was the case, he supposed. A chance to be with God, even when there wasn't anything to connect them.

That just made the fact that a plain 15 year old was chosen in front of his eyes all the more frustrating.

Recently he had picked the bad habit of lifting up his bangs for a while. Perhaps if was because people often asked what was behind them. Some people would be genuinely curious. Others asked sarcastically, as if they were mocking him. The latter one happened to occur quite frequently. He wondered which one was worse.
Maybe it was some sort of self consciousness he had, which didn't help every time he looked at his hidden eye in the mirror. A huge scar that still hadn't healed properly, even extending to his eye, rendering it useless. Even if it had happened long ago, he didn't really mind it as much until recently, he was used to his peripheral view being skewed anyway.

And yet, now looking at it several times, thinking back on that rumor. It was the one symbol of divinity that he had on his entire being. The thing that, to him, meant that he would have been chosen. That there would have been something special about him.
Maybe that's why it stopped responding to it's prayers.

Not like they were ever answered. Not once.
