TW: Homophobia, slurs, attempted murder (unsuccessful, attempted)

Steven likes to think it happens more than it should. That it was a regular thing about his week or day, however often people decide to try it. But he's gotten threats and things thrown at him that he doesn't think much of it when it actually happens. To anyone else, they would be concerned. But to Steven and his friends, they had a routine.

After his morning run around the neighborhood, something he likes to do during the summer since school doesn't really allow him much time to, he goes back home to shower before going to work.

By the time he gets into Mrs. Peacock it was almost six o'clock. Steven pulls up to the side of the road that Joseph lives on soon. His friend is already outside waiting for him. Out by his busted mailbox, his big blue jacket, big blonde hair in a ponytail. The boy smiles once he sees Steven.

Joseph gets inside the truck and the two head to the boardwalk. Mrs. P is parked by the beach and the boys start their walk to the parlor. Joseph catches Steven up on the latest drama about the new neighbors and his mother's work. Though Steven wasn't much of a gossip, Joseph was always unintentionally one. Not that it was ever really his fault, people told him everything and it always made good morning conversation with his best friend.

Some of the people working in the parlor took off once they saw that the two boys made it inside. The boardwalk was fixing to open the rest of their shops and rides that weren't already.

Steven went into the break room and grabbed his apron and Joseph started replacing the ice cream bins on display.

The bell at the door rang through the room and in came Courtney. She walked over to the freezer to Joseph as he was seen struggling with carrying the strawberry ice cream. "WAIT-" He screeched as the door was shut in his face.

That door locked when it was closed.

Courtney walked into the break room and set her belongings in her locker. Steven looked over and dramatically bugged his eyes out and gasped. "Am I dead? Courtney Wilson is at work on time." He says with his 'game show host' voice.

But then he doesn't hear anything being dropped or crashing. Steven knew something was up.

"I know that you didn't lock poor Joey in the freezer." He says as he jogs over to open the door for his cold friend. Joseph was shivering and waddles out, the strawberry ice cream on the floor.

Steven shook his head and grabbed the next strawberry on the shelf and walked it to the display. That was when their first costumers came inside. The sun had started to come up, the sky in a pink and orange flurry. The said customers happened to be Nick and his friends. Steven guesses that they all decided to get to the boardwalk before the summer day rush.

And as much as he would love to bitch at the group and not serve them, he still had a job to do. "What can I get you folks?" He asked politely. Like he was trained to.

Amanda, Nick's girlfriend didn't seem to take too kindly to Steven's comment to him in their class a few weeks ago. She was still pent up about it. And normally, Steven would agree and also be upset for her, I mean, how would you react if someone made an untrue sexual comment about your boyfriend being with someone else? And with another boy nonetheless, too.

But then again, it was Steven who made the comment and Nick and acted like the douche he was. Remembering this, the taller boy didn't seem to mind his words.

"Sorry, but I would really rather not be served by a fag." Amanda told him.

Amanda Collins was, at some point, a relatively nice girl. For the most part. Before anyone found out about him being a homosexual, Steven and Amanda were acquainted. He never really understood what she saw in Nick but he was always supportive of her decisions. But the beautiful girl was always so easily swayed by other peoples words.
