It was a question that Steven asked often. The Ice Cream Parlor didn't make deliveries, so what was the point of having one? He never quite understood it. He didn't even know the Parlor's number. So how the hell were other people supposed to?
But it didn't really matter when that baby blue phone on the counter rang.
Steven rolled his eyes as he picked up the phone, "Joey, buddy, you gotta hit it man. No. Like, hit it like it owes ya money or something. Ice Cream Parlor, how can I help ya?" He finally answered as he motioned to his friend to show no mercy to the frozen yogurt machine.
"Come over to the store." Alan's now familiar voice said through the phone.
The lunch (dessert) rush was about to start. Was now really the time to go and hang out at the Frog's comic store? Probably not. But was Steven still going? Yeah.
Gloria spun around on the stool and once the younger boy hung up the phone she commented, "You know, penguins give rocks to potential mates as a sign of courtship and affection?"
She was referring to the rock that Alan had given Steven the day prior. The one with the rugged exterior. The one in his pocket, because he thought that it would bring him luck since an old friend gave it to him. He would've accepted it even if they didn't know each other but because it was Alan's rock, he would treasure it. A dear friend gave it to him, why wouldn't he?
Steven had been asking himself a plethora of questions as of the last twenty-four hours.
But what he does know is that he is going to go to the Frog's Comic Store. So he called out to Courtney, whom was in the freezer room grabbing another tub of ice cream, and told her that she was in charge until he got back. He walked out the door with his baby blue apron still tied and walked a whole three feet to the Frog's store.
To his surprise he didn't see anyone in the store when he walked in. Steven thought that it was weird. He walked back outside and saw Sam's bike at the side of the store and put two and two together.
Steven walked to the side and saw the Frog brothers opening the back of the store.
"We've been aware of some serious vampire activity in this county for a long time." Edgar told the blonde boy. It seemed that Sam had come to the brothers with a vampire story.
Now, Steven wasn't one to judge on what people believed. He had superstitious friends and he's got a friend that used to be a vampire enthusiast. But telling two vampire-crazed boys that had nothing better to do than to 'hunt vampires' all day didn't sound like the ideal plan.
But was he going to say anything? No.
"Santa Carla has become a haven for the undead." Alan chimes in as he props open the door to the back side of the store.
Edgar went on to say that the two were certain that ghouls and werewolves hid in the city hall. That was something for Steven to think about later.
This is when Steven makes himself known that he was there. He walked up to the group and all he got was a 'hey' from Sam and Alan, and a glare from Edgar. It was also then that Marcy Beckett came by with her bike. And rolled over Steven's foot.
"Marcy!" Steven yelped as he held his breath hoping to ease the pain quickly.
"Oh sorry, it's kinda hard to pass with your clown feet in the way."
"One day you're going to get your ass handed to you and it won't be from me."
But the girl just shrugged and let her bike fall to the ground, back onto Steven's foot. He let out a quiet, 'son of a bitch!' before Marcy walked over to stand next to Edgar and slide something into his hand. It went unnoticed by everyone else.
