"h-how did i get a flower ground pass? Isn't that just for Evers?" Jade managed to muster out.
The queen beamed at her.
"i spoke to the ones in charge. Besides, i wouldn't let my darling daughter get to the school for evil through stymphs. I heard they just drop of students at the moat!"
Jade's mind was wandering, almost panicking.
The king and Ricky noticed this.
"darling." the king caught the queen's attention.
"it seems Jade is a bit shocked by the news." the queen looked on worriedly.
Jade was shaking and her eyes darted from left to right while staring at the ground.
Ricky was rubbing her back while holding her hand.
Jade was inhaling deep breaths.
"the school for evil...?"
The king and queen realized what was wrong, or so they thought.
"sweetie..." the queen was unsure of what to say.
"why.... Why would i go there? Did the school...?"
Jade didn't need to finish that sentence.
"yes Jade, the school has accepted you." the king tried to reassure her, thinking she was just nervous.
"no... No...." Jade kept muttering.
Then she ran, she bursted out of the court room and ran.

"Jade!"
"lady Jade!"
The king, the queen, Ricky and some maids called after her in worry.
Jade couldn't keep her tears from falling.
'this has got to be some sick joke.' she thought to herself.
'to die and reincarnate into a book.... I'm not some isekai manga character!' she chewed on her nails in anxiety.
"Jade..." Ricky knocked on Jade's bedroom door.
Jade stared at the door and walked up to it, reaching for the handle.
"i know you're shaken up, but you didn't have to run out like that. Mom and dad are worried..." Ricky reasoned.
Jade inhaled slowly.
"Ricky... This has got to be a joke."
"well it's not."
Jade shook her head.
"please tell the king i do not wish to go."
".... Why?"
Jade opened the door, revealing a messy haired Ricky.
"Ricky... do you not remember what happens to Nevers?" Jade asked quietly.
Ricky's eyes widened, he frowned at the thought.
His eyes widened, then he reached out to Jade to hug her.
"i won't let anything happen to you." he whispered in a comforting manner.
Jade scoffed and pushed him away.
"you say that but you won't be able to control what happens after we graduate. I'm still a Never Ricky, i don't have happy endings as an option if i graduate!" Jade practically screamed in panick.
Ricky slowly let out a deep breath.
He took Jade's hand and looked her in the eye.
" you're panicking, Jade. Let's discuss this later. For now, take some deep breaths... deep breaths... " Ricky hugged her to his chest.
Since reincarnating in this world, Jade had started to become more and more self reliant.
Meaning she doesn't like showing her weak side, even to Ricky.
But being self reliant takes a toll on her.
This time, she's having a panick attack after an outburst.
And this has never happened before.

Queen Rebecca knocked quietly on Jade's bedroom door.
"come in, mother." Ricky called out.
"she's asleep." the queen sighed in relief.
Ricky nodded his head without uttering a word.
"do you perhaps know why she ran out like that?" the queen asked as she stepped forward to brush of her adoptive daughter's hair out of her tear streaked cheeks.
Ricky kept his mouth closed, knowing Jade would not be pleased to have one of her weak moments exposed.
However, the queen's purely concerned face made him want to answer, to tell somebody how Jade was feeling because she herself wouldn't.
"she's scared." Ricky answered bitterly after a few moments.
The queen observed her son's heartbroken face, staring at Jade's peacefully sleeping one.
She sighed.
"i cannot not let her go."
Ricky turned to his mother with slight anger on his face.
"why? She's a Never mom, she won't get a happy ending after graduation." Ricky repeated Jade's words to him earlier.
Jade was a bit startled and churned in her bed.
The queen shook her head sadly.
"come with me, your father and i will tell you why." the queen left the room, looking back to see Ricky unwillingly letting go of Jade's hand.

In the throne room, there was tension.
"so... Please explain why you insist that Jade goes to the school for evil." Ricky pushed.
The king nodded at the queen, who handed Ricky a letter.
"what is this supposed to be?" Ricky voiced out, testing the atmosphere to see how this would lead to.
The king gestured for him to open the letter.
Ricky frowned.

The letter read:

To the king and queen of Phisia, we are aware that you have taken in honorary princess Emerald as your adoptive daughter. Hence, we would like to have her in our esteemed institution. She shall study under the school for Evil, with minor adjustments to be made. As she is raised by an Ever family, we would like to conduct a test. In grieviances and honor to her family, still we would like to test her values as a Never. She shall be able to replace some classes in the school for Evil curriculum with classes from the curriculum of the school for Good. Though she is not a descendant of any graduate of the school for good, we would like to give her an opportunity to study under our respected foundation.

Ricky's frown deepened.
"so you're going to push her to go to school that is going to mentally and emotionally deteriorate her health... for some stupid experiment?!" he yelled.
The queen made a discouraging face.
"words, Richard."
But the boy did not show any sign of care to his improper wording.
The king decided to intervene.
"my son, Jade is a wonderful and brilliant young lady."
"so why have her go?" Ricky shot back.
The king gave him a strange look.
"As much as i wish for her to stay in the palace and protect her, she need to learn the ways of our world. From the very beginning, our people; the very people that she has helped and is still continously helping , have rejected her."
The queen nodded.
"graduating from this school will help Jade understand where people are coming from when they judge her. And she will come out stronger and wiser than before."
Ricky shook his head.
"exactly! People don't like her because she's a Never. Do you not know what happens to Nevers?! They die!"
Such raw emotion shook the boy's own body.
The king acknowledged the statement.
"and that is why it is an experiment. Jade may be a Never, but she is raised by us. The deans simply want to know if being raised with an opposite outlook will take a toll on Jade. They have assured is that Jade will not be forced to do anything she does not wish. " the king finished.
Ricky tried to think of an argument.
" and if she doesn't want to? "
" I'm afraid she may not decline. This is not a request but an order coming from the school, signed by the schoolmaster. "
Ricky's face paled.
He would have to break the news to Jade, in a not so anxiety inducing way.

'i won't let anything happen to you.'
