"I had no idea Lux Academy was going to be this beautiful!" Luna breathed as she and Valkyrie joined me.
"Flying around here is going to make me feel so free," Valkyrie said.
"Listen up!" a commanding voice bellowed.
Principal Goldhart, along with Professor Crawford, and other Professors I didn't know, stood at the front of the crowd.
"Who is excited to be here?" Principal Goldhart asked.
Cheering and howls of elation erupted from the students.
He smiled, flashing his snow-white teeth. "Glad to hear it! Now let's go."
We trekked across the dark-bricked bridge, my gaze wandering around, taking in everything around me.
I had never seen anything like this before.
The farm and the forest looked dull, and drab compared to the alluring Academy.
A shrill shriek of excitement tore through the air, startling me.
Luna vigorously nudged me and pointed at the sky. I titled my head towards the blue canvas above, my eyes widened with shock.
Dragons, real breathing, living dragons, were steadily soaring towards us in a v formation, their dragon riders clinging to their backs, looking like ants.
The dragons looked exactly the way they had been described in mythology. Enormous reptiles, with bat-shaped wings, claws like scythes, long elegant horns, and piercing eyes.
The wind roared around us as the dragons soared above us, my chestnut brown whipped around leaving it tangled. I watched as the dragons swept back in the direction of the castle.
"Being a dragon rider would be amazing," I said.
"Who knows perhaps you will become one!" Luna beamed
"That would be amazing!" I exclaimed.
I imagined myself on the back of the colossal beast, the wind roaring past me, the world below minuscule.
"I don't need a dragon to fly," Valkyrie stated proudly.
"What's it like to be able to fly?" I asked, delving into my imagination again.
"Exhilarating," she replied, her eyes twinkling. "You feel so free, it's like all your worries are whisked away with the wind that whips around you."
"That's like running through the forest in my werewolf form, it just makes me feel so light like all my problems don't matter anymore," Luna said.
"At least you two have some sort of powers," I muttered. "I don't have any. I'm just a human."
What was a human like me doing here? I didn't belong. I was like the odd one out. I had no powers whatsoever, at least that I was aware of. Lux Academy was created for students that had at least some connection to the magical world through blood. I had none of that.
"Are you saying that you're a human?" Valkyrie said slowly.
"Yes, and I have no idea why I was invited to attend the Academy," I replied.
"You would have been invited to attend for a reason. Lux Academy wouldn't' let you attend if were a full non-magical, you must have some power in you," Luna argued.
"I suppose you're right," I mused.
"No, I know I'm right!" Luna stated firmly. "Don't ever let yourself believe that you don't belong here. The fact that you're a human doesn't mean anything, you have a reason for being here, even if you don't know exactly why."
