"Hurry up, why are you all taking so long!?" I whined, eagerly waiting for them to get ready.
"Some of us aren't early rises like you!" Luna yawned.
I suppose she had a valid point. My whole life, my whole fifteen years of existence, I'd lived on an isolated farm, and always awoke before the sun that shone above the trees like a golden coin in the limitless sky. I delved into my memories remembering how the sun cast a soft glow on my skin, warming me to the bone, especially on those cold winter mornings when frost had descended upon the earth, tinging everything with a diamond sparkle.
"Um, Nora," Sophie muttered shyly, dragging me from my reminiscing.
"Yes?" I replied gently offering her a warm smile.
"We're ready!" she smiled.
"Finally!" I joked with a heavy roll of my eyes.
We made our way out of our dorm and out of the common room chattering excitedly about what we'd see today. Students bustled around everywhere, like a busy colony of ants. Some held maps and eagerly pointed to where they wanted to visit next.
Sophie unzipped her small oak brown backpack and pulled out a large map, unfolded it, and started examining it.
"We should make a plan of attack," she stated. "We should plan where we want to go so we aren't wasting any time aimlessly walking around."
"I suppose we could," Luna mused. "Although, no offense, that sounds boring! It's much more thrilling to explore around randomly, you never know what you'll find!"
"Holly, Amber, and I are going to go off on our own," Krystal said. "We'll meet you back at the dorms later!"
I watched as they were swallowed by the crowds of students that choked the halls.
"I think your plan is awesome, Sophie!" Willow beamed. "So how about me and you go together!"
"Sure," Sophie said softly, with a shy smile.
Willow bounced up and down like an excited child as she trailed after Sophie.
"I guess it's just the original three," Luna declared brightly.
"I'm so excited to see what the Academy is hiding!" Valkyrie said. "I've read in old books that this Academy holds many, many secrets and some of them are dark."
"Let's see if we can find some of these secrets then, shall we?" Luna asked.
"Sure!" I agreed.
We walked down halls and corridors aimlessly hoping to stumble upon one of the Academy's allusive secrets. As we walked down a long marble staircase that led to an expansive and gorgeous courtyard I noticed a throng of students, encircling something in a ragged circle.
"I wonder what's going on," Luna wondered.
Before a word could escape my lips, Luna darted toward the multitude of students.
I let out a soft sigh at Luna's curiosity and trailed after her, Valkyrie following closely. As we approached the crowd raised voices and insults rang in my ears. Luna squeezed through the crowd like water leeching into cracks in the ground.
"I suppose we should follow her," I said.
As I pushed passed people who grumbled rudely I muttered apologies.
I found Luna, who was at the very front of the crowd, getting a splendid view of the quarrel.
Amelia and her friends faced Felix and his companions. Among Amelia's friends was Vivian Amarok a pure-blooded werewolf with a small stature, short chestnut brown hair, and eyes the color of the sun. Valorie Highwind, a pure-blooded harpy with long wavy storm grey hair, sapphire blue eyes, and wings the color of her hair. My eyes felt like they were going to pop out of their sockets when I noticed that Jasper, the shy boy that had kindly given me the chips last night, was standing on Amelia's side, looking utterly frightened.
