Lynn's POV
It was silent, everyone was packing up the campsite. Papa and I helped but I still don't think we have everything sorted out. Although we thought everything was fine, it wasn't. I feel as if he's mad at me for doing what I did. "Hey, Lynn?" Caleb asks as I look at him "Yes?" I say as Caleb stopped me in our tracks. Caleb was the newbie guard. He started yesterday and was trained by Henry like I was. he's sixteen while I'm turning sixteen in a few days. "How come You and Mr. Lincoln acted like father and daughter yesterday?" Caleb asks as I take a sharp breath in and sigh heavily letting it out. "He's a father figure to me. Seeing as I have a strained relationship with my actual father.." I say half lying to Caleb. He looked at me as I looked at him.
"You sure? I noticed last night he had a night terror about someone named Amber, who do you think she could be to him?" Caleb asks looking at me. "U-uh... I have no idea who you're talking about! Who knows he could've had a daughter that passed away and they didn't want the public knowing about it!" I say as I walked away quickly as Caleb blocked me. "You know something. I know you know." Caleb says as I sigh "I'm not allowed to speak about it. And as your boss. I'd suggest you keep out of the President's business and mine. If I wish to speak to you about it. Or anyone else. You'll be the first to know.".
Caleb blinked at me as he just nodded. "If it was about you, you'd already know Cal.. trust me. Now. Get. Back. To. Work." I say as he nodded and did as I told him. Papa watched as Caleb ran to continue what he was doing as if I'd hurt him. Papa walked up to me. "I wasn't hard on him, and second. He's used to me talking to him like that..." I say before Papa could say anything as he smiles and helps me with our stuff. "You really know how to scare a boy," Papa says softly as I laughed. "That's why I'll probably never get a guy..." I say smiling a bit.
"I did that to Robert the day we saw each other again! His face was like 'Is that really the small sister I used to be so gentle with?' But his response was 'Woah, remind me never to get on your bad side'. Yeah.. I tend to have that effect.." I say as Papa chuckles softly as I hug him and he hugs back.
Later we get in the carriage again and we start moving. "Hey, papa?" I ask softly as he looks at me "Yes little Lynn?". "I-I'm sorry..." I somewhat Blurt out as I start to cry a bit as he takes me into his arms. He rubs my back as I cling to him. Papa rubs my back softly as he says softly sighing a bit "You have no need to be sorry... I should've seen the signs of you leaving the way you did.. I should've listened to you when you needed me to..".
"I'm the one that needs to be sorry, not you... you were twelve years old... you had your mother, and Tad to listen but you also needed me... I'm so sorry.." papa says as I hug him tightly. "I-I don't want to let go..." I manage to say throughout the tears running down my face. Papa smiled softly and hugged back as he chuckled softly. "You don't have too little Lynn... you've been running for so long... you don't have to now..". Papa was right. I have been running for a long while.
I had been running from everyone in my family for five years. three years of the life known as the president's "only" daughter was gone. A while later we get back to traveling, the carriage was silent. Dead silent as I stared out of the window as it thundered and rained badly and I jumped as he moved to sit next to me and hugs me like he would when I was little.
