~Ross~
I slam the front door of the house as I storm into the hallway. I'm going to kill my brother! He told my Dad where I was during fourth period, which I skipped and now I'm in serious shit. I smoke, but my father doesn't know. Well didn't; past tense. This was not going to go down well.
"Luke!!!" Bellowing his name as I crash down the stairs into the basement. "Are seriously fucking with me right now!" Grabbing hold of the collar of his shirt, I yell right in his face.
"Ross calm down!" Kat grabs my arm and pulls me back. Easily shaking her off, I barely even move.
"Why the fuck would you tell Dad? You know I'm already pretty much on lockdown! Are you trying to get me tagged or something?"
"Might do you good? Remember when you broke into-" My 16 year old brother starts, folding his arms.
"Shut up!" Groaning, I step closer to him about to grab him again but I'm dragged back.
"Hey! What's happening down here?" I turn around to see my favourite person in the world. Note that was sarcastic.
"Okay, did I wake up this morning or is my life turning into a nightmare?" Scoffing as I see my older brother, Harvey. It's impossible to describe how much I hate him. He had to be my fathers perfect son with his perfect fiancé and perfect job. He just had to become top of the class at Harvard Law and make me look even worse!
"God I'm glad Maia went home already." Kat mumbles to herself.
"Aren't you happy to see me?" Harvey raises his eyebrows.
"Ecstatic! Another person to tell me why I'm a failure!"
"What's this about you smoking?" He folds his arms.
"Why do you even care? Aren't you supposed to be in New York not Colorado."
"Aren't you supposed to be home by six?" It annoyed me that he thought he was so clever. Dude, you graduated Harvard law I get it but you have no idea who I am or what I'm going through right now. Back the fuck off.
"I didn't see that in the contract."
"Well maybe we should review that." He smirks, folding his arms.
"Anyway why are you here? Your girl see what a dick you are yet?" I say this just as my Dad begins to walk down the stairs.
"Ross." He growls at me, his face raging.
"It's fine Dad. It's just because he wants attention. Won't get any after her fails high school and dissapoints Mom at-" That was it. How dare he bring up Mom! I quickly jump on top of him, pinning him to the ground.
"Don't you even mention Mom. It took you a month to even find out she was dead." Snapping, I grab hold of his collar and hit his head against the ground as my Dad and Lucas try and pull me off him.
"At least I made her proud."
"She's dead!" I yell. "She has no idea what you are even doing!"
"Ross that's enough." Dad warns as he manages to pry me of Harvey.
"No! You think you made Mom proud by paying your way into Havard?" Harvey's eye immediately widen as I say the words as he looks at me disbelievingly. "What, you think I didn't figure it out? The money that went missing from my college fund, you sneaking off every Friday night. Didn't you even fuck the-"
"Don't even go there! I know so much about you that you won't want anyone else to know." He tries to threaten me but its doesn't work. There's nothing he could lose against me. Eventually my family gets me off him and I watch as he stands up, red in the face.
"I've got nothing to lose." I shrug, a victorious smirk taking over my features.
"Is this true, Harvey?"
"Of course not. He's just being a shit head like always. I'm surprised you haven't disowned him yet. I'm sure Mom would of." Not being able to stand here and hear him talk about our mother any longer, I storm up the stairs and out the house. The shouts of Kat and my other siblings making no difference of my path. I unlock my car and start driving. Having no clue where I was going, i just drove until I found a little cafe out of town and I was starting to run out of gas.
A small bell rings above the door as I push it open. Mismatching chairs and tables were dotted around the room. Slowly walking in, I notice how little people were here. There was quite a short line to get coffee and most of the seats were unclaimed. Over the noise, I smirked to myself as I heard the familiar Australian accent.
"That's $3.84." Turning around I head towards the counter after the over person walks away.
"Sup Mitchell?" She looks up from the cash register, and shakes her head when she sees me.
"What are you doing here?" Maia sighs, picking up the almost empty coffee jug and moving towards machines which I'm not even going to attempt to guess what they were. Smirking I follow her and fold my arms.
"Well that was as a enthusiastic greeting."
"You didn't answer my question..." The annoyed look she gives me only makes my smirk wider.
"I got into a fight with my Dad and brother. Why do you have a job after only being here for one day?"
"That's none of your business." Her face suddenly falls as she begins adding more coffee to the jug.
"You didn't answer my question." Maia glares at me before heading back towards the counter and placing the jug back behind it.
"We don't all get everything handed to us on a silver platter. Some people have to work for what they need." This girl is seriously bipolar! One minute she's the quietest person on the earth and then turns into the sass master.
"Just because my father is stinking rich, doesn't mean I get everything I desire." Snapping at her just makes her rolls her eyes.
"Say that to your Mercedes parked outside." She grumbles as I roll my eyes.
"You know nothing about my family life and I know nothing about yours. You might want to stop jumping to conclusions." Yes, my father gives me everything. I had a private cook and practically the world. But the one thing that I needed, nobody would ever give to me.
"Whatever, I'm sorry." Muttering, she looks at the clock. "And I'm about to finish my shift so, what do you want?"
"Black coffee." Automatically answering with my usual order, I thank her after she hands it to me and give her a 5 dollar bill. Almost immediately she walks away, taking of her apron and hanging it up on a hook by the counter door. She pulls her hair out of her high ponytail before pulling on a grey hoodie. "Do you have a ride home?" In reply she holds up a skateboard and begins walking towards the door. Before I can offer her a ride she's out the door and already skating down the path. God I actually hate her.
After she leaves my phone starts vibrating in my pocket.
"What's up baby sis?" My answer causes Kat to whine and I laugh loudly at her response.
"Don't call me that." She snaps, I could just imagine her annoyed expression. "Anyway, just a fair warning of you better get your ass back her before they send the FBI after you." It was times like this I actually got along with my sister. Okay, yes. We annoy the crap out of each other but when it really comes down to it, we're actually really close.
"That bad?" Looking around the room, I notice that I almost the last one here so I begin heading out to my car, coffee in my hand.
"So bad that staying at Jays or Rikers to let Dad and Harvey cool off would only make matters worse."
"Can you cover for me? Tell them I went to someone's to work on a project for school?" Unlocking my car, I quickly hop in start the ignition.
"Who with and what for? You know they'll ask that."
"I don't know! Say it was for Drama and I was with Melissa or some shit like that." I put on my seatbelt and start pulling out of the cafes small parking area.
"Okay." She sighs. "Just get back as quick as possible and don't reek of tobacco."
"I haven't had one and I'm not planning on it, see you soon." With that, I hang up the phone and focus on heading towards home, music blaring through my speakers.
God I'm in for it.
