~Maia~
The beginning notes of Sia's 'Breathe Me' awaken me from my slumber. Groaning quietly, I turn it off and roll out of bed. The heavy patters of harsh rain beat against the window of my room. For the size of our apartment. It was quite a good size, I had a couple of bookshelfs, a desk which also held my clothes in the drawers and obviously, my twin sized bed. Opening the white door, which was failing to keep the paint as it peels slightly, I walk out and something crashes into my legs.
"Maia!!!" Rubbing my eyes, I look down to see Lira with a cuddly Olaf toy close to her chest. Our Dad had bought it for her, for her last birthday.
"Why are you up so early?" I chuckle, kneeling down in front of her.
"The rain was loud and we wanna watch Frozen!!!" She exclaims, jumping up and down excitedly. Where does she get her energy from? Raising my eyebrows at her, she knows what I'm waiting for. "Please." Tugging on my pyjama bottoms, she pleads me.
"Okay, okay!" I laugh as she holds on her breath with the word. "But only for half an hour and we watch the rest tonight." Squealing in delight, she skips into to the old brown couch and sits down in it, and jumps on top of it, waiting impatiently for me to put on her favourite movie. Dad took her to see it at the cinema the first time, and loved it so much, he bought her that teddy, which she never lets go of.
"Come on, Maia!" She whines in a high pitched voice.
"Keep it down, Lira. We don't want to wake anyone." Kneeling down in front of her, she frantically nods at me before placing a finger to her lips. Quickly smiling at her, I stand up and put on the movie on our old, almost broken TV, which you have to slap the side of for it to work.
Soon enough, as she quietly whispers the words to Do You Want To Build A Snowman?, I jump in the shower, trying not to use all the hot water or else David will be mad. After I quickly change into a pair of grey high wasted jeans and a navy blue knitted sweater, I wake up Charlie before giving both of my siblings breakfast and making them change so I can take them to school.
---------------
High school, the place that is described using the words happy and safe environment on the school brochure. The place were all of your favourite memories will be made! Except your going to have to put up with bitches, queen bees, wannabes, prejudice, dumb ass boys and fitting into a clique. But apart from that, you'll love it! All the boring classes with teaches which you hate and ones who hate you, not being able to pee because you should have gone at break and most of all, bullying.
I've experienced every single one of those in high school, and right now. As I walk down the buzzing school halls and almost drop dead from people's unwanted stares at the new girl. Looking down at my feet, I quickly make my way to my locker, which I am shoved into, hitting myself in the side with the handles. Abruptly swallowing the pain, I open my locker and grab my needed books before shoving them in my bag and rushing to my first class as the bell rings. Luckily, none of the seats at the back were taken, so I quickly down and absentmindedly draw in a sketch book which used to be my fathers. Nobody, much to my delight, pays attention to me as I live in a little world of my own.
"Everybody up. We have a seating plan." The maths teacher says. Great.
Soon enough I'm told I'll have to sit next to the one and only: Ross Lynch. Way to make my day, Mr What-ever-your-name-is.
"Sup' Aussie?" He chuckles smugly, as I sit down next to him, in the middle of the classroom.
"Nothing much, how about you Blondie?"
"Haha, that's cute." He rolls his eyes, obviously not liking the nick name as he folds his arms. "You never answered my question."
"What question?" Raising my eyebrows at him, I lean back in my seat and narrow eyes at him.
"Why do you already have a job?" When he says this, I quickly look around to check no one heard, making him tilt his head and give me a lop sided grin. "So it's a big secret, huh?"
"Please don't." Looking down, I feel tears prickling in my eyes but I blink them away.
"It's not a big deal, loads of people have jobs. But within the first week of getting here? That must be a new record."
"Stop."
"So, what's the reason, your Dad disown you or something?" That makes my head snap towards him, a single tear rolling down my cheek.
"My Father is dead." His eyes widen and he immediately looks guilty. Screw it, I grab all my belongings and walk out the classroom, heading towards the nearest toilet. Immediately I lock myself in one of the stalls and sink to the floor. Now I hate him even more than I first did. My hand absently reaches inside my shirt and finds the golden locket Dad had given me when I was born. It had my name engraved beautifully on the front and it played a quiet lullaby when you opened it. Tears fall like a river down my face now and I huff out a breath.
"I miss you Daddy."~Ross~
I feel terrible, which is something I don't feel very often. And especially guilty which is something I never feel.
I know what it was like to lose a parent, someone who really cares about you. If I had known that, I wouldn't have said anything, she must be in a really difficult position at home.
"Dude, you okay?" Jay asks me. We were currently sitting at our usual table in the cafeteria. My head quickly looks over to him. "You look like you've got something on your mind."
"Yeah, something like that." I mutter, raking a hand through my hair. "Don't worry, I'm good."
"You sure?" Ellington asks, looking at me with his eyebrows raised. Out of all my friends, Ell and Jay are my closest. I've known them for forever and they get me better than anyone.
"Yeah, don't worry."
"Ross, you still with that blonde chick?" Rocky asks me. You could say I wasn't as close to him as I was the others. As in he hated my guts because I was top dog at this school and he wasn't. Plus he tried to fuck my sister and I beat the shit out of him. He had some red haired girl lap, who he had been making out with for the last ten minutes. They had been in a relationship for the last year, but I never bothered to learn her name.
"Who?"
"We'll take that as a no." Riker chuckles shaking his head.
"Have you ever had a girl for more than a week?" Rocky questions, pulling red head further towards him.
"Not to my knowledge."
"I bet you $750 that you couldn't do it." Smirking, I return him with a confused look as Jay shifts uncomfortably.
"What?"
"$750 that if we picked any girl in this school, you couldn't date her for a whole 6 months." Contemplating it, I look at him for a while before giving him a lopsided grin.
"Okay, done."
"Ross." Jay warns under his breath but I ignore him, causing Ellington and him to share a look.
"So you pick a girl and I just have to be with her for six months?"
"Six months starts as soon as you start dating her. And we have to know everything." His cocky expression on his face shows me he won't think I'll do it. Like I would let that happen. When I agree, he raises his eyebrows and nods.
"Okay, your target for over the next six months is the new girl from Australia." Oh shit.
