*Freya's POV*
I am infuriated to say the least. That girl has been through so much and they couldn't even provide her an education. I called the head of social services for our village and demanded to know how something like this could happen. I absolutely lost it on her when she tried to use Ella's species as an excuse.
Humans don't go to school for as long as most supernatural species. Both Alex and Ezra still attend some classes because in witch and werewolf years they are still very young.
After I got off the phone with my assistant, asking her to set a formal meeting with that awful woman from social services, I called our education contact. We have hired private instructors to do the kids' school at the castle. They are still allowed to attend school events and such but for security reasons the majority of their schooling is done here.
"Hello?" Her voice brings me out of my thoughts when she picks up the phone.
"Patty, how are you? This is Queen Freya." I say in what my kids call my "in charge boss lady" voice.
"Your Highness, how wonderful to hear from you! What can I do for you?" She asks.
"We have adopted a new little. It has not been released to the public so I trust you will keep this information to yourself. She is a human but because of events in her past she has no higher than a first to second grade level education. I want to have her take a placement test and then enroll her in school for wherever she tests into." I tell her.
"Yes ma'am, we can do that. When would you like me to send someone to test her?" She asks.
"She is newly classified and is having a hard time slipping, so I would like to wait a little while before she starts. Allow her to adjust to her new life. How long until the start of your next school?"
"Well, we are just about halfway through this year so the rest of this year and the summer would be about eight months I believe." She says.
"That is perfect. Mark her down to start next year, we will test her about a month prior to the official start date." After thanking her for her help and setting up some tentative dates we hang up.
Since she will be watching the other two go to school this year, I am hoping that makes her excited to go next year. I don't want to overwhelm her with too much at once though.
I start walking back to my room when I hear her little giggles in the playroom. I walk in there and see her hiding behind the curtains with Thomas counting with his eyes shut. He calls out "ready or not here I come" and spots me as he turns around. He smiles and continues playing pretending not to see her little feet poking out.
"Oh no! I think I may have lost our little girl Frey! Whatever shall we do?" He calls out dramatically.
"Uh oh, we may need to call in some back up to he-" I am cut off by her jumping out and yelling
"HERE I AM DADDY!" We all laugh and start playing another game.
After games we went down to have dinner. I think Ella doesn't like what was served but she hasn't said anything. I asked her if she wanted something different, but she told me no. I am not going to push it even though I have a feeling she isn't being truthful. Eventually she will learn to be honest when we ask questions.
"Ella, you have to eat. No more playing with your food, mommy and daddy both finished theirs already. You need to eat so we can go back upstairs." Thomas says sternly. She nods and takes another teeny tiny bite. I shake my head and turn to her. I grab her fork softly and get a bite ready holding it up to her mouth. She looks at me with a shocked expression.
"If you aren't going to take big girl bites by yourself, I am going to feed you." I say with a soft but stern tone. Her cheeks flush red and she takes the bite, trying and failing to hide the face of yuck she made while chewing.
"You know, if you were to tell us you wanted something else when we asked, I could've had the chefs make you something. Now they are all gone so you're stuck eating this. Next time do you think maybe you should tell the truth when mommy asks you a question?" I say to her while I feed her another bite. She looks between Thomas and I with wide eyes and then looks down and nods.
"I'm sorry, I can't hear head nods." I say, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes mommy, I'm sorry." She says before opening her mouth for another bite.
"Thank you, baby. Although, I am not the one who has to eat a dinner I don't like." I tell her while feeding her the last few bites.
"How about you go upstairs with daddy, and I'll bring you a surprise, yeah?" I direct my question slightly towards Thomas so he knows too. Her face lights up and she nods enthusiastically looking to Thomas. He laughs and picks her up heading towards the stairs.
I listen to them conversing as they leave and start picking up the dishes, bringing them to the kitchen. I grab a sippy cup and make some chocolate milk. I know I told Ella we couldn't make another dinner but truthfully I love cooking and do it quite often. I just wanted to teach her a lesson, but I also don't want her to go to bed without getting something she enjoys so I am going to bring her the chocolate milk as a treat.
I get upstairs to see her sitting on the ground of her room looking at all the stuffed animals in the corner.
"Whatcha thinking there bug?" I ask her while sitting down next to her. She shrugs her shoulders and looks up at me.
"Just wondering if Mr. Benji would be upset if I slept with another stuffed animal. I still want him, but these look so soft. Maybe they could be friends?" I smile at her innocence.
"I'd be willing to bet Mr. Benji will be happy to have a new friend honey," I assure her. Thomas walks in the room and makes sure the baby monitors are on.
I pick Ella up and walk over to the rocking chair, offering her the sippy of chocolate milk. She looks at it curiously.
"Uhh mommy, I think this cup was yucky before you put the drink in here. It's brown and gross." She says curiously. Thomas starts laughing and I try to keep my giggles contained as to not hurt her feelings.
"That is your treat sweet girl. It is called chocolate milk, have you never had it before?"
"No, I heard of it before but never had it yet. Is it yummy?"
"Why don't you try it and see for yourself?" I smile.
Turns out chocolate milk is the best of the best, she downed the cup with wide eyes and a slight grin on her face the whole time. After finishing, I asked her if she wanted me to read her a story and she picked one out to bring to me. I begin to read the story and not two pages in her little eyes start drifting shut.
As I finish the book, I hear small snores coming from the sleeping figure in my lap. Kissing her head, I gently set her in the crib, double check the baby monitor, and walk in my bedroom. Thinking about how lucky we are to have three beautiful healthy kids. I hope introducing them goes well tomorrow.
