"Can we go find Rain now?" the little boy complained to his sister.
"Yes."
"I'm gonna take you guys out to the little town down there. It's about ten miles away. I'll leave you guys with a friend and then come back and find Rain."
"But it might be too late," the girl said.
He paused and looked back at them. He could see the glimmer of tears in her eyes. Her white dress speckled with pink cherry blossoms fluttered in the breeze. She looked just like her mother, the resemblance was uncanny.
"Rain had one objective and one objective only and that was, to keep you guys safe. He wanted to get you out of this hell and it's why he brought me here so, that's what I'm going to do. Trust me, I don't want to leave your cousin behind. I've kinda grown to...you know? Like him. In a very special way. But I know that if I put you guys at any risk, Rain will never forgive me. He loves you guys a lot and your well-being is all he cares about."
They bounced their heads, looking at each other with sullen stares and deep frowns.
"It's gonna be okay. I'm not promising you anything that I cannot deliver but I'm going to try to get help. You guys have been through a lot and so has Rain. I'm not sure why anyone hasn't come out here to see what's going on but they haven't and I'm sorry for that. Rain told me that he believed the world has left you guys behind, and turned its back on you. But that's not true. I care about you and I care about what happens to you. Now, I'm not the most decent guy in the world. Don't tell your cousin but I might import illegal stuff and sell it for a big profit back home. I couldn't tell him because I know he's kinda righteous and all that. I promise if we get out of here and I find Rain, I'm never going to do any bad stuff again. Okay?"
"Okay. I believe you but that's only because Rain won't let you. He doesn't like doing bad things. One time he made Bobby take back a piece of candy to the store because he forgot to pay for it."
"Yeh and I didn't even do it purpose," the older boy said with slanted eyes. "But he didn't tell my parents because he didn't want them to punish me."
"He never tells on us. One time I broke my mother's expensive glass bowl and he told her that he did it. He took my punishment for me and up to this day, she still thinks he did it. My father started realizing how much Rain loves us and how much he protects us and he started liking him very much. It's why he told him that our grandfather stole all of his money and property from him. He didn't mean for any of this to happen and neither did Rain," Anya said.
"Yeh..." Jet nodded his head as he remembered all of the kindness that Rain had shown him. "Rain's a pretty sweet person, isn't he?" He felt his face begin to burn as he thought about Rain. His heart ached, he prayed that he would be lucky enough to find Rain again.
"The sun is starting to come up," Anya said as she pointed in its direction.
"Yeh but it's still creepy out here." Bobby shuddered.
"Oh, right, you guys believe in that kinda stuff." Jet rolled his eyes.
"Don't you? I mean, we've seen some pretty bizarre stuff before," Bobby said.
"And I don't want to hear about it."
"Are you scared Jet?" Anya asked, her eyebrows drawn together in a look of pity.
Jet spun around and kept walking. "Come on let's keep going!"
"It's okay to be scared!"
"Yeh? Well, I am scared. Sue me. None of you have just been chased in the forest by your grandfather who has a shotgun by the way...and a machete."
