Time has passed since what the revived gems called “The great awakening”, really it’s been almost three years. Every gem that didn’t immediately return home to homeworld went to little homeschool, or at least the early versions of it.
“Yo-yo! Charoite!” Amethyst shouted in her usual jazzed voice. Charoite had found herself growing fonder and fonder of the little gem.
“Amethyst! Greetings, how are you?” Charoite chirped, kneeling down to see the gem more clearly.
Charoites were by far some of the largest non-diamond gems out there, being only 1-3 inches taller than pink diamond. For visual comparison, it made Charoites half the size of yellow and blue diamond.
“I’m good! What are you doing today? Staying here I hope.” She cackled, punching Charoite’s shoulder jokingly. That’s when she saw her friend’s smile slowly disappear into a frown, “Oh.. you are leaving today.. Aren’t you?” she murmured
Charoite nodded, standing up straight and puffing a bit. She was unsure how to answer her friend, she was never good at farewells, “indeed I am. Amethyst, I love the earth and its people. I love the freedom to live, the life that it holds, how nothing ever stays the same, but it isn’t my home. Homeworld is my home, even if my diamond isn’t there.” She explained, starting to walk closer to the warp pad, holding her hand out to amethyst.
Amethyst rushed up, taking her hand and nodding, “get a bachelorette pad?” she snickered, trying to make the mood lighter.
“Bachelorette?... Oh! Like that tv show peridot watches? No, I’m looking to get reassigned.”
Amethyst got quiet, trying to wrap her head around what she was just told, “Reassigned? But, you’re a free gem! Why not try finding things you enjoy doing? Like art or cooking!”
“I don’t want to do anything different.. I was a warrior for thousands of years before my demise, I don’t think I could ever do anything else.” Charoite muttered, letting go of her friend's hand. “Well, I’m off, I’ll come back for some earth food if I ever crave it.” She joked.
“Don’t have too much fun without me! I’ll miss you!” Amethyst smiled brightly, waving to Charoite as she vanished into the cosmos through the warp.
‘That.. went better than I expected it too.’ The gem sighed as she relaxed her shoulders, just glad to be floating through space again. The air was chillier than she remembered, but still comforting and welcoming as always. The air beside her flying past was as ambient as she remembered, it almost lulled her to sleep. But after the minute or so that she was flying through space and time, she snapped back into the right mindset, and prepared to land on homeworld soil. She hadn’t seen homeworld in thousands of years.. What was it going to look like? Was it still being rebuilt? Was it still in shambles?
Charoite planted her feet on the ground, her eyes squeezed tightly shut as she adjusted to the atmosphere, the lack of the scents from the plants, the lack of sound from the ocean. It was.. Home. She was home, finally home.
