I can't help but feel her intimidating look burn right through me. My heart starts beating faster, as I try to suppress my nerves. This woman has something that I've never seen before. She knows how to play this game and I doubt that this is the first time she had someone locked in this room.
"Let me try this again." She speaks up after a moment of silence.
"Who do you work for?"
I sigh as the realisation comes to me that I'm locked in a cell in a highly secured building which I don't know the location of.
I close my eyes and project one of our training rooms filled with people part of the organisation, being trained for any possible missions before my eyes.
"I'm afraid I can't tell you their name." I respond.
I can't risk myself being kicked out, considering I would still not have come any further with finding my mother.
"What do you do for them?" Natasha asks.
"Same as you, I go on missions every now and then. I'm not always needed, they have more options." I sigh and start to give up on refusing to cooperate. I'm stuck here with nowhere to go.
"You know, I don't think Gonzalez would be able to help with your little personal problem."
"What do you mean?" I frown.
"He might've seen like this powerful guy, but he was a fool. He fucked up his business multiple times. Why else did you think he was such an easy target huh?"
I just sit there trying to keep this staring contest going, wanting to avoid her gaze with any chance I get.
"If you expose your organisation to us, I could help you." She tells me with a reassuring look.
I raise my eyebrows, shocked by her sudden offer. Suddenly I feel really small. I can hear thoughts in the back of my head telling me that this is something I have been needing. I have been stuck in that place for 8 years now, never gaining any information.
Something about this felt right but at the same time I couldn't stand letting my guard down. Knowing nothing about this woman and still feeling this weird connection was something that made her seem trustworthy. But I knew nothing about her nor this organisation or whatever it may be.
"How could you possibly help me." I ask her.
"You don't know what we're capable off. We have our connections and right equipment. You can have yourself a pretty good deal here." Natasha responds convincing.
"I'll give you a moment to consider your answer." She says and stands up to open the door and lock it behind her, leaving me and my thoughts alone in the room.
I wince and move my hands that are still tied behind my back, starting to irritate. My whole body feels stiff and tired out.
This conversation got me thinking and I'm slowly starting to lose my mind. The whole reason I joined the organisation was because they found out about my powers and gave me a good reason to stay with them. But in all these years I haven't found out anything and it's driving me insane.
I lose track of time when I snap back into reality after hearing a lock clicking. I see a familiar redhead walking back in heading toward the door of my cell. She enters the room and stands in front of me.
"So, what will it be spy?"
"I accept your offer, Romanoff." I say with a spark of confidence.
I'm realising after all this time that the organisation is using me for their good use and they have me wrapped around their finger convincing me they can help me.
"Good choice."
"Are you going to untie me now or what?" I say as she wants to walk away.
"I will be back in a moment, don't worry." She says and gives me a small smile.
I can't help but stare at her as she walks away. The way she moves so elegant, radiating confidence.A moment later she returns, but this time not alone. She is followed by a man with brown hair and a funny beard, dressed in a suit.
"So you're the mysterious spy?" He asks.
"If that's what you want to call me. Now please get me out of these ropes, they're not that comfortable."
Natasha walks up to me and I can feel her hands making slight contact with mine, whilst untying me. I can finally move my hands and feet freely but stay seated.
"Follow me." The man says.
I stand up and follow Natasha out of the room. He takes us to an elevator, moving 2 floors up. We leave the elevator and walk through a big hallway to a room. He opens the doors and we enter some sort of conference room.
"Take a seat."
I take one of the chairs around the table and sit down. Both Natasha and the man sit across from me.
"I'm Tony Stark. You are now in the Avengers tower in New York City. I heard you are willing to expose your organisation in exchange for a favour?" He asks me.
"Yes, not like I had much of a choice." I sarcastically reply to him.
"Doesn't look like it, how intelligent of you." He smiles.
I scoff and straighten my back.
"Tell me, how can we help you." Tony asks.
"The reason I became part of the organisation is because I'm looking for my mother. She disappeared when I was 2 years old and no one knows where she is. They promised me to help, if I would work for them. But it seems like that was all a lie. I won't tell you anything if I get nothing out of this." I tell him with a straight face.
"We can do more for you in 3 days than what they've done for you in years, miss ..?"
"Y/l/n" I reply hesitating. "Y/n Y/l/n."
"We have seen more of you around the city. That tattoo behind your ear is pretty obvious. No one seemed to be as devoted to their job as you though. You have been in the way of our business so there really is only one option. We need to get rid of that organisation you work for and it looks like we have an advantage. You." Tony says.
"If you help me find my mother, we have a deal."
"Great, I will take care of the papers. In the mean time we can offer you a room in the tower."
I think for a second but feel like it is the best place for me to be right now, instead of risking going back to the headquarters empty handed.
"Romanoff, show her to her room please."
Natasha stands up and I follow her back to the elevator. It's silent all the way up to my room, which is another 3 floors up, but it's quite comfortable.
"Here's your room." Natasha says as we stop in the middle of the hallway.
"You're next to Bucky and Wanda and I'm a floor up." She explains and opens the door to my room.
I'm shocked as to how big these rooms are. Everything seems to already be there. A queen sized bed, big bathroom and windows from the floor all the way up to the ceiling with the most beautiful view of New York City.
"If you need anything you can knock on my door. Dinner will be at 7 so I will pick you up from your room." She says.
"Sounds good." I reply receiving a small smile from her.
I don't know what it is with this woman but she makes me nervous when she is in the same room as me.
She turns around and closes the door behind her. Leaving me in my room in the avengers tower.
