KIRO WEST

A YEAR EARLIER
I'm sat on the couch in the corner of a room packed with bodies- some familiar some not so much. The atmosphere is hot and the smell of hennessy was prominent from any other alcohol that was being consumed that night. The lights were dimmed, flashing LED and bodies were grinding and grating together. The friction in the room was bringing everyone together.

Zephaniah was sat on the same couch I was but the only difference was he had a desperate ex begging for forgiveness. But he ignored. It was like his mind had left the room and is body was just a dummy. I glance at them to see Zeph's stoic exterior. He was clearly getting pissed off but this girl couldn't get a clue.

I turned back to the dance floor and brought the hennessy to my lips keeping my eye on the one girl who had my attention all night. There was a steadiness to her, as if all the storms in the world were a whispering breeze if she was there. She looked kind yet reserved, perhaps that's what drew people to her. She wasn't dancing like every other girl in this place. if anything she was the only one not dancing nor drinking. Instead she sat there on the other side of the room sipping on the same coke from when she first came. What she wore was unclear as i was wasted myself.

I'm more of a quiet drunk guy. I don't dance.

Sometimes my view of her would be blocked by the swaying bodies. However i looked forward to when to bodies cleared because i could see her again.

Then i heard shouting. The voice belonged to my best friend. I turned to look and he's now standing leaning over Anara (his ex). Her eyes were watering but so were his. Her hand were shaking but so were his. His mouth was moving but i couldn't hear what was said as if my ear were clouded. Zephaniah dropped his drink and ran up the stairs taking them two by two.

I turn back to the dance floor to see her talking to someone. A boy. A college boy i thought as he looked much older but i couldn't see his full face. Expected as this was a college party. In his hand held a pre opened cherry coke. He lifted it probably offering her one. I saw the hesitation in her expression before she reluctantly accepted bringing it to her lips. A few seconds passed. The girl swayed into the boy and he caught her. Her eyes struggled to stay open. the boy leaned down bringing his mouth to her ear.

Then my vision was blocked by the once again dancing guests snapping me out my daze.

I turned expecting Zephaniah to be the there but her wasn't. shit. I stood at my over towering height swaying a bit but however regained my balanced. I walk to the steps of the stairs taking slow steady steps. Once i reach the top i looked to my left then my right ultimately deciding to go left. i walked past the first bedroom. I walk past the second.

But as i approach the third i see a girl hanging backwards off the bed her hair covering her face. i didn't recognise her. All i could see were her eyes. They were drooping and almost blood shot. Her dress was bunched at the hips. But there was a hand. it was caressing her. But she wasn't engaging. She might as well of been dea-

"Where's ivañdro? we're leaving."Zephaniah broke my train of thought as her step out of the bathroom with bloodshot eyes.

I simply shrug at him and i turn back to looking at door but it was now shut. Zephaniah brushes passed me and saunter behind him. Once Zeph and i reached to bottom of the stairs Xaylynn was there. I stumble on the last step but Xay he catches me wrapping his arm around my waist and i put mine around his neck.

"Woah i think it's time to go." Xay says.

"Yeah no shit." Zeph mumbles clearly out of it. We walk to the door when my vision blurs being the last thing i remembered off the night.
