(Dipper pov)
I wake up, looking at the clock on my end table. I sit up swinging my legs off the bed and stand up slipping my feet into my slippers.
"Mason!" I flinch hearing my mother screech for me from downstairs. I sigh, pulling on my bathrobe and tying it as I head downstairs.
I stand in the doorway of my mother's dressing room, the maid trying to tighten her corset. "Yes, Mother? What is it?"
"Why in the name of heavens aren't you dressed yet?"
"I literally just woke up."
"Go get yourself ready. We have to be out of here in 5 minutes in order to make the rehersal on time."
"Yes Mother." Knowing her it's going to take over an hour just for her to get in her dress.
I head back up to my room changing into the suit. It's nothing fancy, just blue vest, suit jacket, and tie instead of the normal black ones. I sit at my desk, a butterfly fluttering around the jar I caught it in. I take out a pen and paper as I finish the drawing of the butterfly I had been working on last night.
Time flies by as I work on the drawing, it feeling like it's only been a few minutes for me. I finally finish the drawing before looking at the bright blue butterfly again. I pick up the jar unscrewing the cap letting the butterfly free.
It flies around my room for a few minutes before landing on my nose. I smile with a small laugh before it takes off through my open window. I watch it until it disappears completely from my view.
"MASON!" I flinch again hearing my mother screech my name again. I look out the open window seeing that the carriage is here.
"Coming!" I call back. I quickly pull my shoes on, make sure my bangs cover my birthmark, before running down the stairs and out the door. I give Soos, the carriage driver, a smile and wave before I get into the carriage sitting across from both of my parents. I hear Soos cough a nasty cough before the carriage pulls away from our house.
"Pacifica Northwests is quite the catch, isn't she." I look over at my Father as he says this.
"I don't know, I've never even spoken to her before."
"You have to make this work, Mason." My mother scolds me as she fixes her make up in a small mirror. "This is the one chance we have to get the one thing money can't get you."
"Love?"
"No! Respectability!"
"They're one of the oldest families around here." My father reminds me.
"I know, Father, I know. And I know that everyone is counting on me. I promise both of you that I won't let you down."
"We'll see about that." My mother remarks as the carriage stops at the Northwest mansion.
We get out of the carriage, approaching the door as my mother rings the doorbell. A butler opens the door letting us into the house, both Lord and Lady Northwest waiting for us in the entryway. Lord Northwest's smile looks like it hurts him. It's really creepy.
"What a pleasure it is to invite you into our home." I have to keep myself from rolling my eyes as I stand behind my parents silently with my arms politely folded behind my back.
Lady Northwest's eyes land on me. "I take it that this is Mason?"
"Y-Yes ma'am-"
"Speak up. No one likes a mumbler."
I clear my throat before speaking up even though I wasn't mumbling that much. "Yes ma'am. And I go by Dipper, not Mason."
Lady Northwest just looks at me with disdain. When she isn't looking my mother elbows me hard in the ribs.
"We will be having tea in the west drawing room. Pastor Galswells has yet to arrive."
They all make their way down the hall leaving me standing there alone and forgotten. A feeling that I am very used to at this point. I look around taking in everything I see.
The mansion is impressive, it's just very dusty and old. It feels less like a home and more like a prison. It doesn't even feel like they pay for this place to be heated at all.
I bump into something and turning around I see it's a piano. I press a few keys, the sound ringing out in the emptiness.
I look around making sure no one is looking. I sit down at the piano, making sure not to spill the vase with a pine tree branch that sits on the piano. I slowly start to play a piece, smiling slightly as my fingers seem to dance across the keys with a mind of their own.
"It's lovely."
I jump in fright, the bench hitting the floor with a loud clatter. I quickly grab the vase to keep it from falling over. I turn and see Pacifica, brushing a strand of blond hair behind her ear and straightening out her purple dress.
"I...."
"You play beautifully."
"I'm sorry, Miss. Northwest....you must forgive me...I was just..."
"What was that song you were playing?"
"I don't really know. It was just something I played without thinking."
"It was sad but dreamy."
"I guess...."
"Mother won't let me near the piano despite how much I wish to play. Says it's too improper for a young lady, too impassionate."
"If I may ask, M-Miss Northwest-"
"Pacifica."
"What?"
"Given the circumstances, I must insist you just call me Pacifica. No more formalities." She sticks out her hand. "Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Pacifica Northwest." She laughs slightly seeing my confused laugh, having a kind smile on her face. "This is where you shake my hand and introduce yourself, silly."
"Oh, right." I grasp her hand shaking it. "Dipper. Dipper Pines."
"Nice to meet you, Dipper."
"Tomorrow we're....you know....."
"To be married?"
"Yes...."
She sits at the piano, running her hand on top of the keys but not pressing them.
"Since I was little I always dreamed about my wedding day. Hoping it would be with someone that I loved with all my heart. Someone to spend the rest of my life with. Sounds silly, doesn't it."
"No, not at all." I sit next to her. "I think that should be a normal thing to dream about."
"You probably don't."
"Well I'm not a girl so...."
"What do you think of this whole arranged marriag? It is very old school I must say."
"I mostly think my parents should be glad that I'm bisexual or else this wouldn't even be an option."
I smile seeing that this made her laugh again, her laugh and smile feeling like it makes the whole room light up.
"You have an amazing laugh, Pacifica."
"And you have an amazing heart, Dipper."
I rest my elbow on the piano but instantly regret it as I accidently knock over the vase.
"Shit." We both stand up as we try to clean up the mess. "I am so so sorry."
She picks up the pine tree branch and puts it in my suit jacket pocket.
"I think it's a good look for you."
"What is this?!" We both jump back from each other, her mother standing there glaring at us both. "You shouldn't be alone together! It's almost 5 and we aren't at rehearsal! Come at once!"
