Fire Burns for a Reason

Chapter 4: Tanks

Layla and McCree was still in the training room when Soldier walked in with some paper work in hand. "Ah, there you are Layla. I was looking all over for you." He says to her. Layla puts up her scythe and looks at the commander, "Hello sir. what did you need me for?" She asked him with her normal poker face, "Some of our teammates came back from their missions and you haven't met them yet when you first got here." Soldier explained. Layla tilted her head to the side, 'More people? Huh, I thought this would be all of them on the day that I met them. Well, the more the merrier.' She thought and puts her weapons up before looking at the gunslinger next to her. McCree felt a little uneasy before looking at the girl next to him, "Spill it." Layla says. 

"No little lady, you would have to see them yourself. I've met them before and their, how should I say...different." McCree explained to her. Layla sighed at the cowboy and looked at Soldier, "Alright, I'll meet them." She says and Soldier nods in response. The three walked out of the training room and went to the meeting room where she met the others the first time. Junkrat and Roadhog were sitting quietly in the meeting room which was a bit of a shock before Junkrat was the loudest one. But earlier Layla smashed his head against the table for messing with her so now Junkrat has an icepack on his head with a bad headache. 

The door opened and revealed Soldier, Layla, and McCree. The team was looking at them until Soldier spoke up, "Where are the other tanks?" Soldier looked at them. Layla looked at him, "Tanks?" "Wait you don't know?" Tracer asked. "All that happened was introducing and the showing of the base. That's it." Layla says. "Sorry about that. There are three different roles here. Tanks, Damage, and Support. Tanks like Reinhardt, have shields to defend. Damage is the majority of us here. Support is Mercy and a few others but there on missions right now. You would be damage." Soldier explains. Layla nodded at him. Junkrat snickered at her, "Can't believe Shelia didn't know 'hat. " He says to Roadhog and his friend just grunted in response. Layla hissed at the skinny junker, "Shut the hell up peg-leg or else you'll be going to the infirmary." She threated.

Junkrat cackled loudly but winced a bit at his head injury from earlier, "I told ya to stop callin' me peg-leg ya pipsqueak!" He shouted at her. Layla reached for her gun but was stopped by McCree, "Not right now darlin'. He may be a pain in the ass, but he has his uses with explosives darlin'" He says to her. Layla rolled her eyes and pulled her hand away from McCree, "Whatever. When are the other tanks coming?" She asked. Winston spoke up, "They should be here in the next-" A knock was heard "Well that was a bit of miscalculation." Winston said. Soldier looked at Layla, "You may want to remain calm and try not to offend them." He warned. Layla gave him a confused look, "Calm and try not to offend them? How the hell do I do that?" She asked. Everyone but the junkers and Layla looked at each other. "You'll find out. Alright, come in." Soldier said to the door. 

The door opened and revealed an omnic with the lower portion of the body that has four legs along with the upper torso with a gun on the right arm called Augmented Fusion Driver walks in the room before scanning the area with yellow eyes. The eyes turned red when the scanning stopped on Layla, "Intruder alert! Intruder alert!" The omnic says before raising the Fusion driver at Layla. Junkrat starts laughing again, "Pipsqueak's existence offended the tin can!" He hollered before Roadhog whacked on the back of the head, "Shut up". Soldier quickly stepped in, "No Orisa, this is Layla. She is a new member here." He says to the omnic. " He says to her. Orisa quickly stops her actions and looked at Layla. "Apologizes. I am Orisa." She says to Layla, "Layla." The girl says back at the omnic. A few seconds later a noise was heard and sounded like an animal. The door opened and closed revealing a giant metal ball that rolled into the room and stopped in front of Layla. When the ball stopped it, the ball had four looking crab legs that popped out from the sides with the hatch still closed. Layla looked around the ball, "Woah, this looks cool." She says until she heard movement inside the ball until a little fist burst through the hatch and a head popped up revealing a hamster. The hamster climbed out of the ball and looked down at Layla with his nose twitching a bit. Layla stared at the animal with wide eyes before she started laughing. "HAHAHAHAHA!!! No way a fatass hamster can drive this thing! He can't be a-" She starts wheezing through her sentence. The other members were not laughing.

Soldier cleared his throat, "Uh, Layla. You may want to stop laughing." He says to her. But Layla was too busy laughing at the small animal that was standing on the ball. Junkrat wanted to laugh, oh he wanted to laugh but the last time he did that to the hamster,  he was chased around the base for three hours straight. Layla wiped the fake tear, "That's a good laugh." She says and heard angry squeaking from the hamster. Layla looked at the animal, who was red, jumped into the ball. "What the fuck is the hamster suppose to do? Squeak people to death?" She says and looked over her shoulder at her teammates until she heard a click noise. Layla looked back at the ball and saw the hamster push a button before seeing two quad cannons aka machine guns pointing at her face. A squeak was heard followed by a deep robotic voice, "You have offended and angered the hamster. Apologize. Now." Layla sweated a bit and looked up at the hamster with a pale face, "Uh, I'm sorry." She says. A squeak was heard again followed by the voice and the sound of the guns reloading, "Apologize again." The ball says. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" She quickly says. The hamster puts up the guns with a happy squeak, "The hamster accepts your apology." The voice says. Soldier puts his hand on Layla's shoulder, "The hamster's name is Hammond, but the ball or mech is name Wrecking ball. The mech translates Hammond's animal noise so we can understand him. Winston can understand him without the mech because their both animals." He explained. 

Layla panted a bit, she never had machine guns pointed that close to her face or hearing them reload that fast before. 'Now I see what they meant, do not offend the hamster. ' She thought and stood up. "I'm Layla." A bit of squeaking, "The hamster does not like you." The ball says to her. Junkrat finally busts out laughing at her and fell out his chair, "Ya really done it now pipsqueak! Ya done angered the critter!" He hollered.

Layla sweats a bit, "Oh, boy."
