- Lily POV -
I ran downstairs and saw him on his phone, on the couch. "Clay. Are you busy?" I asked. He shook his head no, and I sat next to him.
"Ok, well I was just speaking to Wilbur anddddd...he's right. I shouldn't let my past get in the way of my happiness. Clay-" I grabbed his hands, kind of telling him what this was gonna be about. "You make me happy when I feel sad, and you are always there for me whenever I feel lonely. So, I think I'm ready." I told him.
He just stared at me, as if he was in shock. "Clay?" This seemed to have broken him out of his thoughts.
He immediately pulled his hands away from mine. "I'm sorry Lily, but I met somewhere else."
"What?" I said, hoping I heard him wrong.
"I met someone else at the grocery store." He look down at his phone. "I actually have a date with her right now."
"B-but you said you'd wait for me." My voice cracked. It felt like something was stuck in my throat. I wasn't tearing up though.
"I know." he sighed.
I scoffed a laugh and stood up. His eyes followed me. "I was being stupid. Well." I clapped my hands together. "I hope you have fun on your date! Uhm, I'll probably be in my room when you come back. And...tomorrow. We can go back to normal. Y'know, to friends. I can get over, whatever just happened, quickly. Yea...sorry for making things awkward."
He just stared into his lap, fiddling with his fingers.
"Clay! It's not your fault. Don't worry. Now get up, and get going. You don't wanna be late for your date! If all goes well, I hope I can meet her!" I smiled. It wasn't fake. I just wanted Clay to have someone who would make him happy, even if it wasn't me.
"Ok." he got up and grabbed his phone and keys with him. He opened the front door, but stopped. "Again, I'm sorry Lily."
"No worries. Have fun!" I waved and he smiled before closing the door.
I briskly went to my room. I first picked up my phone, telling him to call me when he was free, and then plopping onto my bed.
I started crying. If I had just done it earlier. Obviously, what I needed right now, was a loop of a certain song.
