FADED GOLD

(November 4, 2013) (Kislev 1) (Monday)

.Chara flipped to be hanging upside down from the tree. Kade stared at her from the ground. "That's dangerous."

"You're dangerous." She replied in the same tone.

"The only dangerous one here is you."

"No way. You can even ask Austin."

"I have to agree with Kade on this one."

"See?"

"I'm not dangerous, I just know how to do things."

"And that's exactly what makes you dangerous!"

The three kids were pulled from their playful bickering to the sound of Kade's mother laughing heartily.

"Is that mom?" Kade wondered, "I don't think I've ever seen her laugh."

"Really? Why doesn't she laugh?"

Austin answered, "she hasn't laughed since dad left. Kade was too young to remember him. I barely remember him."

"Oh. I don't remember my mom. She died when I was a baby. She got really sick."

"Is that why your dad always looks tired?"

"Maybe a little, but it's more because he's a kindness soul." She went back to sitting on the branch. "Our farm fed off his energy almost as much as if fed off sunshine and water. And our farm is huuuge!"

"That does sound tiring."

"Yeah," the three played and talked for a few minutes more before their parents came over.

Both of them looked very happy. "Who's hungry!"

"MEE!!" The two boys shouted, hopping from the ground. Chara jumped down from her branch, landing on her feet and lowering into a crouch as to not hurt herself. Ms.Laura seemed momentarily alarmed, but her father smiled and chuckled. Chara just smiled back.

Dinner was an amazing lamb stew with a side of salad and rice. It tasted amazing. Then again, anything made by Ms.Laura was amazing.

That definitely followed suit with the chocolate and strawberry cheesecake, where Chara scarfed down much more than she should have. She decided she liked her birthday for this sole purpose.
