Eli POV
Joliette and I were going to the mall to go look at cameras, since everyone else bailed on us. Traffic was heavy, but Joliette didn’t seem to notice. Her gaze was fixed out the window, looking at who knows what, it’s just a freeway. I went along with traffic, until my head starting spinning. Everything was blurred, and cars seemed to be splitting in two. Am I about to pass out? Am I dying? Is this really how I’m going to die; going on my first date with the best girl ever? As if my headache wasn’t worse, my head felt like it was going to implode. No, not explode, with brain juices everywhere; I mean implode, like the sun imploding in on itself. I couldn’t hold back the groan escaping my lips anymore. At this point, Joliette was snapped out of her day dreaming and looked over at me. She softly asked me, “Are you okay, Eli?” Gee, do I look okay? I think not. I shook my head no, and instantly regretted the decision. Everything started spinning faster around me. “Pull over.” She directed. Good call. I pulled off to the shoulder of the highway, putting my head in my hands trying to stop the pain. “What’s wrong? Is it your head?” Could everything just shut up for one minute? The cars flying past didn’t help. Another sharp pain ripped through, causing me to groan. I guess she took that as a yes and she told me she was going to drive. I stumbled to the other side, surprisingly not getting ran over, and got in the other side.
Joliette started driving us home. I kind of felt bad because I know how excited she was. I started thinking of what could have brought this on. Yeah, smart right? Overthink with a headache that just might kill me. Then, the truth hit me like a ton of bricks. Not again. No, that can’t be it. Can it? Then I saw it. Why wasn’t Joliette slowing down? I yelled out, “WATCH OUT!” She slammed on the brakes, yanking the car to the ditch. The seatbelt was tearing into my flesh. She turned to me, looking angrier than ever. “WHAT THE FUCK?!” she screeched at me. No, no, no. She didn’t see it? “You didn’t see it?” I whispered, scared of the answer. “THERE WAS NOTHING THERE?” My heart sank, no. “No, no, no this can’t be happening again.” I whispered, shaking my head, not wanting to believe this nightmare. I thought they cured it? I thought they fixed me. Her tone softened a bit, “Look, just close your eyes, and we will talk when we get home, okay?” I did as she said. Looks like the truth is coming out. I can’t believe this. I refuse to believe it. Maybe I’ll just lie and say I thought I saw a….I don’t know…a fucking cat or something. But she’s smarter than that. I guess there’s no getting out of this one. When we get home, I’m in for it.
