Eli POV
I must have fallen asleep, because the next thing I remember is being shaken awake by Joliette. I mumbled, trying to get her to leave me alone. Sleep is good, and when you haven't slept in god knows how long, you savor the short slumbers. She kept shaking my shoulder, when I snapped. "LET ME SLEEP LADY!" She looked shocked, and tears were forming in here eyes. Shit, I messed up this time. I tried to make up for it; "Hey, hey, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap like that." I said, trying to calm her down and avoid the water works. She nodded, and got out of the car. Me, however, I kinda fell out of it, and stumbled around. I heard her laughing at my pathetic attempt to walk. I decided to sit Indian style on the sidewalk, so I wouldn't look like a complete dumbfuck. "Um, what are you doing?" I fell to the side and sprawled out over the sidewalk. "Sleeeeeep." I whined. She giggled and grabbed my hand, helping me to my feet. We walked into her apartment, going to her room.
I ran and jumped on her bed, grabbing a pillow to lay on. She walked over and sat on the bed beside me. "Well you aren't shy are you?" "Nope, I'm just an asshole who doesn't care." I replied smirking. "So, I guess you know my next question?" I mumbled "Yeah." "Care to explain?" "Not really, but I guess I don't have a choice." "Not really, but I won't judge you or make fun of you if that is what you're scared of. It won't affect the way I see you." "You say that now but will you mean it afterwards?" "Just tell me whats wrong." "Okay, so when you were driving, I saw this little girl. But she wasn't a normal girl, her face is blue, like she drowned. Her hair is thin. Her lips are blue. She's dead. And I know that. But I know this little girl. She was my own little sister." I say, starting to tear up. But I continued. "I found her that day you know?" I stated, laughing dryly. "She was in the bottom of the pool. I came home from school, and found her floating on upside down, in our own backyard pool." The emotions came flooding back as I remember the panic, the despair, the sirens in the distance, her cold, lifeless hands. I break down in front of Joliette. "You know my parents blamed me? Said I could have saved her. Don't you think I WOULD HAVE IF I COULD? Do you know how it feels living with your little sister's dead face etched into your mind?" I fall back and sob into the pillow. Joliette wraps her arm around my shoulders, holding me close, trying to comfort me. With a tear stricken face, and turn and tell her, "Ever since that day, she haunts me. She'll show up randomly, just standing there, in her faded pink dress. There's something wrong with me. I'm crazy, fucked up." And that's not even chapter one of my life story, I thought. "You are not crazy, you are not fucked up. Any normal person would go a little crazy. I know I would. Just know I will always be here for you. If you need a shoulder to cry on, I'm here. If you need someone to talk to, I'm here. If you need someone to hold you until you fall asleep, I'm here. I'm here for you baby and don't ever forget that." She said softly. I nodded, feeling myself slip out of consciousness. I felt Joliette cuddle into my chest, wrapping my arms around her. I held her close, and fell into a peaceful slumber.
