‘Fate is often a wild concept, a concept I can hardly explain in words, a concept that perplexes even the brightest people. Some see fate as the thing that finds true love and good luck; some see it as a bad omen, a thing that destroys families. I used to be the type of person to say fate was nothing but back luck and death, but after the last 3 weeks, my perspective shifted almost entirely now. How did I end up here? Well, flashback to august 25th 2065’ [REDACTED] wrote in a journal then started to write back through the past 3 weeks of events.

[REDACTED] got out of their bed, or more cot provided by the orphanage it seemed like just another day as they went through the motions of the day school and all but on the walk home a shadowy figure ran past a photo falling from their pocket, the photo being of [REDACTED]s parents with red x’s over the eyes they picked up the photo running after the person jumping over obstacles with an odd precision the vengeful feeling overwhelming the protagonist gaining almost inhuman abilities they spent a solid hour and a half chasing the person and 2 hours getting back to the orphanage “your home only one minute before curfew. Care to explain yourself?” The old hag who managed the orphanage named Ms.Beweather questioned

“I got caught up in something.” Our protagonist told the old woman in an annoyed and tired tone “Don't do it again, or I’ll ground you for the remainder of your stay here.”

“Fine, fine, whatever I won’t.” [REDACTED] responded then walked off with an obvious annoyance in every step they went back to their cot area and sat on it looking at the photo tears welling up in their eyes as they tried to fight it back. They pulled their hood tightly over their eyes and laid on their side on their cot silently crying themselves to sleep.

The next morning they woke up before anyone else minus the attendants and slipped to the bathroom hiding behind the door until the nearest attendant walked past, once the person had passed the opening [REDACTED] was hiding behind they took their shot and ran to a nearby open window hopping out onto a fire escape quickly running down starting to retrace their steps of where they saw the person quickly coming to the moral quandary of not wanting to commit a murder but having a sort of sense of emotional need to avenge their parents. As they walked the sullen streets of the overcrowded utopian city full of violence and the sounds of high-pitched scared screaming. [REDACTED] noted the gunshots that rang through the streets, tall soulless buildings loomed over the darkened violence-filled streets, dark shadows stretching across the city looking like some sort of horror movie setting. The only illumination in the darkened streets were the lights of advertisements and people's cell phones, a sad reminder of expansion being valued over nature.

As [REDACTED] walked down the streets the overwhelming sense of loneliness waved over them, they decided to start small, a simple animal companion was deemed to be the best start. [REDACTED] ducked down an alleyway looking for a rodent companion, they looked through the darkened alleys for a while before finding a small, only about the size of a human palm rat, the rat had white fur with light Caramel orange spots. [REDACTED] gently picked up the small animal cradling it in their hands softly smiling at the small animal. The rat climbed up their arm onto their shoulder "cool, at least you like me" [REDACTED] muttered to themselves to fill the void of lack of conversation.

The lost and alone teen spent the rest of the day searching for clues but found nothing but false leads. The time quickly turned to 7 [REDACTED] barely made it into the orphanage before curfew, they decided that they needed to find answers desperately and would evade monitors and cameras to get out that night and not return. As they lay on their cot waiting for the lights to go out for the night they planned their escape from the building and where they would go from there, they had nowhere to turn, so they decided to try to find other teens like themselves, people lost and dejected by the world with nowhere else to go just like them. Night fully set in, the lights went out, and [REDACTED] sat up looking for anyone else still awake, they noticed a girl sitting on a cot typing on a broken old obviously stolen laptop. [REDACTED] Decided to walk over and start their plan, this kid was perfect for their ragtag group, smart and just as dejected as [REDACTED].  “Hey” [REDACTED] started with

“What?”

“Well I wanna get out of here”

“I do too but why do you want to get out?” the girl asked with a head tilt, her messy purple hair falling over parts of her face slightly covering her deep blood-red eyes that shone like rubies

“I found the guy who killed my parents and I want to get revenge.” [REDACTED] Said with a cold arm crossed

“I’ll leave with you, if I get something out of it too?.”

the girl said, gently closing the laptop, her hands moving soft and gracefully yet her voice carrying a hardened tone

“What's your request?”

 “New gear.”

“Deal” the two completed the deal shaking hands then both sneaked off avoiding camera view, sometimes having to damage the cameras. After a long slow sneaking trek down the hallway, the two finally made it to an exterior window with little to no monitoring. The two lost children ran down the fire escape trying their best to not look too suspicious, a quite easy task considering the bar was set extremely low. "So what's your plan?" The girl asked with a side-eye look "Follow the clues” [REDACTED] said in a foreboding tone.

“So do you have a name?” the girl asked [REDACTED]

“Vera.” Our protagonist stated plainly

“Vera?”

“Yeah, what about you?”

“Allison” Vera nodded and kept walking, Allison walked beside her, messing with their hands “Why did you choose me to come along on this mission of yours?” Allison questioned

“I dunno you just seemed cool” Vera stated her voice having little to no emotion

“Ah, alright” Allison decided to end the conversation there the two followed the well-worn path Vera had walked twice the rat Vera had picked up poked its head out of Vera's hoodie as their journey began.
