Very soon, Hookfang had us in the air, I whooped loudly despite my nerves and I held on to the saddle with a death-grip, hard enough to turn my knuckles white.
In all honesty, I would have prefered to hold on to Snotlout's firmer waist, for no reason other than it being a secure anchor to hold on to.
Totally.
I could faintly hear Anubis flying next to us, the sounds of the occasional flapping of wings filled my ears and gusts of wind through my hair. I turned my head and smiled at the large dragon flying with Hookfang.
"This is amazing!" I shouted.
"I know, right?" Snotlout said. Hookfang. also chortled in agreement. Soon enough though, we caught up with the other riders and my initial thrill wore off, but my excitement didn't subside, even with the
view of hunter ships in the near horizon.
"Snotlout, why is there a Death Song next to you?" Fishlegs asked accusingly.
"His name's Anubis!" I called from behind Snotlout, poking my head out just enough so that I was visible from behind his and shoulders. Although, it wasn't hard, considering he was shorter than me.
Fishlegs levels him with a look of irritation.
"What!? You really thought I was gonna I leave him there? Besides, big guy over there made it clear they're a package deal" Snotlout explained, exasperated as he inclined his head at me and the yellow dragon shadowing us.
"He's not wrong" I commented, matter-of-factly.
"You know what Fine, he can come, Anubis too, just keep them both out of firing range of the hunters" Hiccup spoke up.
"Whatever." Snotlout grumbled, but complied anyway.
"Alright. Fishlegs, Twins, sink as many of those support ships as possible, Astrid, help me take down the Command Ship. Snotlout-"
Hiccup paused, looking at him.
"-Stay out of reach and cover us!" he
ordered.
Snotlout rolled his eyes and prompted
Hookfang to fly higher. Anubis obviously followed us.
I looked over Snotlout's shoulder to where the fighting had already started, the twins and Fishlegs were blowing up all the smaller ships and boats with their gas explosions and magma blasts. Hiccup and Toothless were trying their best to destroy the biggest ship, and yet they appeared to be accomplishing very little, even with the help of Astrid and Stormfly.
"We need to help them!" I exclaimed over the noise of the wind.
"I thought you'd never ask!" Snotlout grinned sadistically at that.
Hookfang swooped down and he immediately opened fire on the boat below, leaving holes in the wood.
I looked back and see that the places where the gaping holes should be,
there are reinforced, sea-foam green plates of metal beneath the planks.
