He knows. Potter saw the way Katie Bell looked at me and now he knows the necklace hexed her. Fear of being caught tightened its grip around my throat and I retreated from the dining hall. I raced to the boys bathroom and unknowingly caught the eye of a certain Hufflepuff. I leaned over the sink, taking off my tie in the hopes that I would be able to breath better. I heard footsteps behind me and I looked up quickly, expecting it to be Potter here to confront me. I met her kind, concerned gaze and my dread was replaced with grief. If only she knew what I'd done. Oh, it would hurt her.

"Draco? What's happened, are you alright?" She asked, coming closer to me. I shook my head and avoided her eyes. I don't know why she cared about me when all I do is push her away. She was a half-blood, father and mother would disown me.

"I'm fine, you can go." I turned away from her, but she caught my gaze in the mirror. A pitying smile found it's way to her face and she neared me. I tensed up a bit when she placed a calming hand on my back and another on my arm.

"Tell me what happened, Draco." She encouraged with a gentle squeeze of my arm. "It's obvious something's bothering you. I know you, you won't ask for help-" I cut her off with a jerk of my arm and I spun to face her angrily.

"You don't know me! You think you can help me? That all of this will just blow over? You have no idea what you're dealing with!" I snapped harshly, causing her eyes to widen. "Go away! Can't you understand that I never wanted you to be around me?" I pushed her back a bit to get my point across to her, but instead of eliciting a negative reaction, she was relentless.

"You're upset, I understand. You don't mean that." She was so gentle, always so kind to people who didn't deserve it. I put a hand in my hair, tugging at it a bit and I made a circle with my pacing.

"You still don't seem to get it." I turned to her, my wand out, and her eyes filled with fear. "You want to help me? Stay.Away.From.Me." Her hands lifted a bit in caution and her gaze was pleading for me not to anything rash.

"Draco, please let m-"

"Why do you insist on trying to help me? Why are you so fixated on me?" She opened her mouth to speak but no sound came out and she blushed. I smirked menacingly. I knew how to keep her from me now.

"Did you honestly think I would waste my time on you? I could never be with you, you pathetic mud-blood." I spat. Her eyes were wide and they began to water. I took a step towards her, turning my gaze from her hurt one.

"Drac-" She tried shakily.

"Go!" I shouted at her, making her jump back. She put her head down and nodded, turning and making her way to the entrance. I faced the mirror once more, but she caught my eye. My distressed features softened when I saw the burning pain in her eyes.

"I'm sorry." With that she left me, just like I told her to. I gritted my teeth, self-loathing nagging at me and I propped myself up on the sink with my arms. I turned the water on and splashed it on my face. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, taking in my pale skin and dark circles, and I realized that I just pushed her away for the last time. The only person that would maybe listen to me and actually help me was gone, and it was all my fault.

I began to cry, the realization of how hopeless my situation was weighing down on me. I didn't want to murder anyone, but if I didn't he was going to kill me.

"You hexed her, didn't you Malfoy." Potter's reflection stared back at me as he walked into the bathroom...

I never spoke to her again, she avoided me and didn't involve herself anymore. I told myself it was for the best, that she wouldn't get hurt this way. Her pained look haunted me and her shaky voice apologizing replayed in my head constantly. When Voldemort attacked Hogwarts, after Potter saved me from the fire in the Room of Requirement, I went looking for her.

He body was next to the other corpses, her eyes closed peacefully, the smile always on her face was gone and would never be seen again.
