The great beast Smaug was dead. The city of laketown burned, it's people homeless. Thorin Oakenshield paced through his throneroom, armored and brooding over the Archenstone.

"Thorin," She made herself known. The human lady who had acompanied the fourteen at Gandalf's request. "The more the merrier!" He'd said to convince the King. She was an excellent fighter, and had been staying with the elves of Rivendell whilst searching for another journey to embark on.

"I do not think it wise to--"

"Silence." He merely stated. She glared a bit, but held her tongue in curiosity. "What is your reasoning for disturbing me?" The lady took a breath before speaking carefully. Everyone in the group had come to notice Thorin's odd behavior, his dragon sickness.

"I came to see if I could lend a bit of friendly advice."

"Advice? What kind of advice could you offer me?" Thorin lifted an eyebrow and the girl took a couple of steps closer to his throne.

"Advice pretaining to the people of Laketown." He seemed annoyed by this and the lady bristled. "Thorin, they are starving, they are dying. Women, children, old and sick people with no where to go. Winter is upon them and they've no heat, no food."

"Who am I to fret over what happens beyond the halls of Erebor?" Thorin said noncholantly, the human staring at him, appalled.

"So, your word means nothing then?" His eyes shifted to look at her, angrily. She challenged him back, glaring as he stood from his throne.

"My word?"

"Yes, you gave them your word they would share in the treasures that filled the halls of Durin, that you would see to it Laketown prospered." She held his stare as the king slowly made his way closer to her.

"The people of Laketown, the bargeman, what you do not see is that they would all try and steal from me. They would take my gold, take my jewels, and I will not allow such theivery in my kingdom." His deep voice vibrated off the walls, echoing.

"They are desperate, why should it bother you if they took a few coins? I hardly think Master Bard would allow such a thing--"

"No! One of my company has taken the Archenstone, one of my kin, who can tell what the filth of Laketown could carry with them!" Thorin shouted.

"You are greedy! You are false! You tell me they would steal when you yourself have lied to them!" The woman matched his volume, glaring at him.

"How dare you speak to your king in such a way--"

"I have no home in Erebor." She corrected with a flourish. "You are no king of mine, you are hardly a king at all! You may be rid of Smaug, but you've done nothing but replace him with another greedy, evil beast!" In a flash, Thorin raised his hand and struck her across the cheek. The girl flinched and stepped back, placing a hand over her face. Her tears were shocked away, and she raised her eyes to the dwarf before her. He realized to late what he had done, and his eyes widened. Thorin watched as she stepped further away from him and regained her composure, removing her hand to reveal a red mark.

"I...I..."

"Thorin Oakenshield, the king I met in Rivendell would have never lain a hand on me. The king whom had begun to steal my heart would have never become so consumed by greed..." She glared at him. Thorin didn't know what to say, he was angry with himself and at the same time angry with her. He knew he was greedy, yet he didn't want to aknowledge it. All he wanted was his Archenstone.

"Go."

"W...What?"

"Go!" Thorin growled, his greed and anger consuming him. The red-cheeked lady gave one last glare, before turning from him and quickly leaving his sight.
