Hearts on the Odyssey

Ch 7

After finding the Power Moons that they had needed, Mario and Cappy returned back to the Odyssey. They put the Power Moons in the Odyssey. It was magically restored back to normal. Mario and Cappy were relieved that the Odyssey was easily repaired.

Mario commented, "To the Metro Kingdom!"

Cappy seemed to have nodded. They got on the airship and took off for the next kingdom.

Cappy told Mario, "The whole kingdom is one vast city, filled with skyscrapers. It seems it was built using the energy of Power Moons."

Mario was excited to see the kingdom. He hadn't been to a big city like this in a long time. When they arrived in New Donk City, it was pouring rain. Cappy turned into a rain hat as Mario changed into his rain gear. There were a ton of posters showing Bowser and Peach, wearing their wedding attire. Peach looked scared.

Mario promised, "I'm coming, Peach. I'm coming."

Cappy added, "We both are."

They got to one of the skyscrapers, seeing Pauline looking out at the ship flying over the building.

Mario did a double take, "Aunt Pauline?!"

Cappy repeated, "Aunt?"

Pauline was surprised to see Mario and asked, "Mario...?"

Mario was crying tears of joy as he hugged his long lost aunt. Pauline returned the hug, crying herself. Mario finally pulled out of the hug. He turned to Cappy.

He introduced, "Cappy, this is my aunt, Pauline."

Pauline smiled at the Bonneton, "Pleased to meet you."

Cappy regarded, "Same to you, Ms. Pauline."

Pauline looked at her nephew and asked, "Mario honey, what are you doing here? Where's Luigi?" Mario's face fell as he told Pauline what had happened. She breathed, "Oh dear, sounds like you are in a heap of trouble! But at least Luigi's safe."

Mario admitted, "I honestly don't know if he is, Auntie... I keep having a bad feeling that he's in trouble."

Pauline started to say, "Well I don't know if this means anything but I heard some of those monsters talking about a King Boo..."

Both Mario and Cappy did a double take. But more Mario than Cappy.

Mario blurted out, "King Boo?! I was right, Luigi is in trouble!"

Cappy pointed out, "But what about Peach and Tiara?"

Mario frowned. While he knew that they needed to stop Bowser, he also needed to check on the Last Resort.

Pauline offered, "I could go with Cappy if you need to get to the Last Resort."

Mario looked at her, unsure, "You sure auntie?"

Pauline nodded, "I'm sure, I remember how your brother used to be afraid of ghosts. We'll handle things here."

Mario kissed her cheek, "Thanks Auntie. As soon as I help Luigi, we'll be back quickly."

Pauline smiled at her oldest nephew as he used the Warp Pipe to get back to the Mushroom Kingdom. Pauline saw a lot of her brother in Mario and a lot of her sister-in-law in Luigi. She had been sent to the Metro Kingdom a long time ago. It was before the fatal accident that took both her brother and sister-in-law. She had promised to run the kingdom fairly, unlike Ben and Alisha, Peach's mom and dad. A long time ago, Pauline was kidnapped by a gorilla named Donkey Kong. That's how she and her brother, Mario Gregory Manfredi Senior, came to Mushroom Kingdom.

It wasn't their decision. But the kingdom needed some heroes. So that's what Mario Sr. and Pauline did for a long time. It wasn't long until Mario Sr. met Lucinda and wanted to settle down with her back in Brooklyn, NY. After the twins were born, Pauline had become instantly attached to both of the kids. She loved her nephews dearly. She never expected to be back in the world that her and her brother had loved so much. It wasn't like she could even communicate with the upper world, it was impossible. So she was declared missing. She wondered if that's why Mario Sr. and Lucinda were in that car accident. Pauline looked back at those events with a sad sigh.

"Miss Pauline?"

Pauline snapped out of it, looking at Cappy. "We have a mission to finish!"

Cappy seemed to have nodded. With that, the two of them headed off.

Meanwhile, unaware that help was coming, Violet was still in the Last Resort. She went back to the basement, since Elvin had asked her to come. Violet entered his lab where Elvin was waiting for her.

He greeted, "Hello Violet. I have some extra items here for you, if you need them."

Violet grabbed a few golden bones and tossed one at Spettro. Spettro gobbled it up, wagging his tail happily. Violet petted his happily, making Spettro pant happily. Violet took off the G-00 and closed her eyes for a bit. Elvin watched her. Spettro laid on her tummy as she rested. Elvin thought, 'Well, at least she's getting rest.' A little while later, Violet was back on her adventure again. This time, she headed to the fourth floor, The Great Stage. Spettro walked with her. As soon as the sacred violet ice left the elevator, a symbol rolled crossed the floor. It spooked her but only for a moment. Violet continued down the hallway, listening to piano music. A ghost trying to slow them down with bringing the rug up and down. Violet jumped into action and took out the ghosts.

She commented, "That was a bit easy..."

Spettro pointed out, [I think the harder part will be coming up soon...]

Violet groaned, "Yeah, it usually does."

They went through the doors at the end of the hallway. On the stage was a piano and a portrait.

Yellow.

Spettro told Violet, [That seems too easy.]

Violet stated, "Agreed on that."

Just as the ice wielder got onto the stage, a piano player ghost appeared. He saw Violet and started to attack her. Violet used her Aurora Nine to freeze the piano player ghost so she could catch him. Before too long, she managed to defeat him. She panted, exhausted.

Spettro cheered, [Yay, you did it!]

Violet took the 6 button he coughed up and responded, "All in a days, or rather, nights work."

Spettro wagged his tail as Violet went up to the portrait that held Yellow. She used the Dark Light Device on it, setting him free.

Yellow groaned, "Oh man... what happened?" That's when he saw Violet, "Violet!" He ran over to her and hugged her leg, "You saved me!"

Violet patted his head, a bit awkwardly. Now she knew how Luigi felt. She frowned, 'I hope we can save him soon. He must be so scared...'

"Violet...?"

Violet perked up, "Yeah?"

Yellow asked, "Where's Luigi...?"

It was then Violet couldn't take it anymore. She started to cry.
