Toni groaned as her alarm blared through her room, rattling down the metallic hallways that lead to the other rooms. She stretched slightly before reaching over and grabbing her phone, switching off the alarm. "I still don't get why training is so early on in the morning." Muttered the woman as she slowly rolled out of bed, swaying slightly as she sat trying to wake herself up. "Topaz. Come on. You're my sidekick now, no slacking off!" Demanded a deep voice from the doorway "Fangs, we both know that's not true, we both work for veronica, and if anything I'm above you." Said Toni as she stood up, rolling her shoulders to wake her arms up. "Yeah but I'm stronger, so I might as well be you and Veronica's boss." Said the man, crossing his arms and puffing out his chest. "Fangs, that's not what being a hero is about, you need to have the brains and the moral ya know?" Said the heroine as she moved over to her closet and pulled out a loose fitting, spandex suit. "What next? I have to save kittens and help old ladies cross the road?" Questioned the tan skinned man "you know what the answer to that is, Fogarty. Go annoy pea for once." Fangs huffed at Toni's response, swiftly turning on his heel and marching back down the hallway.
Toni sighed and stepped into her connected bathroom, stripping of her night wear and the stepping into her suit. She had often wondered why they had to train in their suits, but had eventually put it down as veronica wanting everything to be realistic, especially since the Latina wanted her sidekicks to be perfection on the field. They were representing her after all.
Sidekicks weren't allowed an identity while working under the lodge name, they didn't even have naturally formed powers and talents. Everything was planned out and manipulated perfectly so that her people wouldn't just be helpful while fighting, but would be a great addition to marketing. Everything was perfect.
So perfect that Toni could barely remember the last time she was allowed to leave the base outside of work, of course she went out with Veronica, sometimes even to large social events run by the older woman's father, Hiram. But other than that she didn't have a social life, no friends, and no family. Toni thought it was for the best though, she was a superhero in the making and having people she cared about would be a weakness.
