"Miss Foster!" I heard Mr. Sweeney's high, nasal voice yell. I turn around to see him yank my sister's ear buds out of her ears by the cord, pausing whatever music she was listening to. "Have you decided you're too smart to pay attention to this information?"
I saw her wince as she opened her eyes, probably from the bright lights in the museum reflecting off of every surface.
"No, Mr. Sweeney.." my sister mumbled, seemingly shrinking under the glares of everyone around. She started to hide behind her shoulder-length blonde hair, so I walked over by her and put my arm around her shoulders.
I glare at Mr. Sweeney and he just rolls his eyes. He continues his lecture despite the fact that I'm next to her.
"Then perhaps you can explain why you were listening to your iPod instead of following along?" He held up her earbuds as if they were evidence of her crimes. Actually, to him, they probably were.
She also needed those earbuds for a reason, but she couldn't tell anyone. The only reason she told me is because I started having similar troubles. I can phase through objects. I don't know why, I just woke up one day halfway in the ground. Sophie walked in and saw me inside the ground and did everything she could to help me out. She definitely screamed too, but she's stubborn and doesn't want to admit she did. How else would our parents have known to come to my room out of nowhere?
"Since you've decided that you're above this lecture, why don't you give it?" Mr Sweeney continued. He pointed at the enormous orange dinosaur in the center of the room. "Explain to the class how the Lambeosaurus differs from all of the other dinosaurs we've studied."
"Sophie doesn't have to explain sh- er, crap!" I said to Mr. Sweeney loudly. Everyone turns to me, so I glare at all of them with my dual-colored eyes. I've had them since I was born, so it makes me stand out in a crowd. Well, I also stand out because I am a 11-year-old high school senior, just like my sister but younger, but..
"El!" Sophie said, her eyes on the ground. "Just let me do this."
I scowled but nodded reluctantly. Sophie then proceeded to recite facts about how the dinosaur was different from the others, but I mostly just tuned it out because it was boring. What I didn't tune out/ignore was the amazing look on Mr. Sweeney's face. It looked like he had swallowed something sour and I loved every second of it.
I also heard him mumble something along the lines of 'so useless', so that was fun! Ahh, messing with teachers is the best. Anyways, where were we? Oh right! I was zoned out and everyone was leaving the room except me and Soph!
"Nice job, Superfreaks!" Someone said loudly to the two of us, snapping me back to reality. I noticed that it was Garwin Chang, one of our classmates. "Maybe they'll write another article about you two!"
"Yeah, and if they do, I'll be enjoying every second of luxury and fame!" I replied with a smirk, walking closer to him. "What, still bitter that Yale rejected you and accepted the both of us instead?"
Chang turned red with embarrassment and kept stuttering to find a response while his friends just laughed at him before dragging him off.
I laughed with them for a bit before eventually calming down and walking back over to my sister, who was looking at a boy reading the newspaper about the two of us. When the article first came out, our parents freaked out about it and Sophie definitely almost passed out, but I was enjoying every second of it. I was finally at my rightful place on top of the world!
When I looked at Soph, I just rolled my eyes. She was just staring at the boy, blushing. I playfully pushed her forward and she hurried back toward me, but the boy must have seen her and turned towards both of us.
