The words echoed around in my ears. I didn't want to believe them, but they sounded so right. I could only stand there and stare in disbelief as Sophie laughed.

"Not human," she said through hysterical laughter. "Riiiight." She turned around and started walking away, motioning for me to follow her.

"Where are you going?" Fitz asked, nervousness etched across his face.

"You're insane," Sophie told him, "and I'm insane for trusting you." She turned to me. "Come on, El, let's get out of here."

She grabbed my hand and dragged me further away from Fitz, if that was even his real name.

"Wait."

The word was a command, practically forcing us to turn around and glare at him. He stumbled back a bit before regaining his composure.

"Can humans do this?" He asked before he closed his eyes and vanished. He was only gone for a second, but it made Sophie jump backwards in fear. Me? I kinda just stood there in shock, but also in awe. I mean, who wouldn't be at least a LITTLE freaked out after that?

"Whoa, how did you do that?" I asked, sparkles probably in my eyes as I leaned towards him.

"But I can't do that," Sophie said, apparently ignoring me.

Fitz ignored my question as well when he told Sophie, "You have no idea what you can do when you put your mind to it. Remember what you did with that pole a few minutes ago."

"So, wait," I started. "If Soph and I aren't humans, are you saying we're aliens or something?"

I saw Sophie start holding her breath, but she released it and turned bright red when Fitz started laughing.

"No, Sophie isn't an alien," Fitz said, seemingly ignoring the possibility/fact that I'm also not human.

"Hey, why are you only bringing up Soph being.. whatever she is, but never including me?" I asked, sounding more upset than I wanted to.

Fitz seemed confused. "What do you mean?"

"What I mean is, you keep acting like I don't exist, or count towards whatever you are looking for."

Fitz looks at me confused and I just sighed. "Hold on, let me show you." I stood up and put my arm against the car. I then closed my eyes and focused on the weird feeling I felt whenever I first fell through the floor. It felt like I could feel something between my cells, so I focused my mind on that and felt my hand go numb. I opened my eyes to see it inside the car and Fitz's eyes widened and his mouth dropped open.

I pulled my hand out and shook it until it reformed and I had feeling back in it.

"I can't believe it.." Fitz mumbled. "And you're so young.."

"Yeah, what about it?" I asked.

"Hold on," Sophie said, reminding me that she was watching. "We can come back to this later, but let's finish what he started talking about earlier: what exactly ARE we?"

Fitz sighed. "You aren't an alien, but you ARE an elf."

Instantly, pictures filled my mind of pictures of Soph in tiny costumes with elf ears and I couldn't help but laugh. Sophie joined me, making Fitz sigh.

"You really don't believe me, do you?" He asked.

I shook my head, and Sophie said to him, "Did you really expect me to?"

"I guess not." Fitz sighed again, dragging it out before he pulled something out of his pocket. "Would it help if I showed you?" He asked, holding out a long silver stick with a cobalt crystal on the end of it.
