"I'm forever indebted to you my girl." Derenle chuckled as he moved his chair forward, closer to Sade.
"I mean, I could have been dead by now but for your loving heart. Well, I'm not surprised."
"What?" she flushed.
"Why are you staring at me like this?"
"I'm sorry sade, I usually can't take my eyes off beautiful sights. That's my weakness." He raised his hands as to show his sincerity.
"Really?" she raised her eyebrows.
"Ehm...The only beautiful sight I behold is your face. Of course, who else is as perfect as you are, my darling?"
"That's enough, don't be a clown." She jokingly said.
Derenle kept mute, but fixed his eyes on her, though he was lost in thought. His intense stare made sade slightly uncomfortable.
"Let me go get you water." she said, breaking the silence to ease her discomfort.
She nervously stood up from her chair with her eyes glued to the screen of her phone.
"Sade!" Derenle crankily called out as he caught her by her hands.
"You see, sade...." He finally spoke, breaking the minutes of silence as he moved closer to where she stood still like a statue.
"Are you fine?" He looked straight into her eyes.
There was a sudden acceleration of her heartbeat as she stared blankly at him.
"Since I lost màámi, there had been a void in my heart, a deep wound I thought would never heal up. I'm not only surprised that you have filled the void, I really am surprised about how fast my scars healed up." He brought the tip of his collar close to his eyes to wipe off the tears that was already dropping.
"I really can't express my gratitude the way I want to." He said with a shaky voice.
"Pardon me." He giggled.
"But I can say thank you, my love." He held her hands as he leaned forward towards her. She moved a step backward as he moved closer to her.
"Thank you always." He tucked her hair behind her ear, and pecked her forehead.
"Thank you for choosing me." He whispered as he ran his hand through her back.
"It's alright." she mumbled, trying to save herself from the next foreseen play.
"It's alright Derenle." she said sharply, overcoming the tons of hormones that had just been initiated in her system.
"You're not in any way indebted to me, I don't like it when you say that. I was just lucky to be the vessel God used to save you. Come to think of it, if I had not obeyed, I wouldn't have met an amazing person like you." she winked.
"But if you insist on saying "thank you" to me, there are other better ways you could do so without sparking up that dangerous guy in us, right? Buy me Pringles." she laughed out loud.
"We have talked about this before now, and God has been helping us. Let's not ruin things when it's just few days left to our wedding." She tapped him lightly on his shoulder.****************************
"You can call Lola a lady with an eminent strength, a lady who didn't compromise her standards irrespective of...." Derenle gasped.
"Brace up Mr Derenle."
"... irrespective of any odd, Barrister. Her ability to stand firm to her words made my love for her grow immensely. Her 'yes' was always yes, and when she says 'No', you can't force her to do otherwise.
"A lady with defined boundaries." The barrister shook his head.
"We soon got married. You would expect it was the happiest day of my life- of course, yes.
It had been a fierce battle with me in the warfront, yet I overcame. She picked me up from the gutters, and clothed me with a royal apparel. Would you have expected me not to give her my best including all my supports and protections?"
"Sure." Mr Davies nodded.
"As luck would have it, this perfect lady took in almost immediately after our wedding. I was so elated on hearing the news...."
"...Derenle. I'm so sorry to interrupt you, but I have a question."
"Do well to ask."
"So, tell me how you overcame your anger issues during that period."
"Anger issues." He simpered.
"I was about to say that. Don't worry Mr Davies, I'm telling you everything in details."
****************************
It was a sunny Sunday afternoon, the glowing midday sun shone recklessly, emitting an intense degree of heat. Aderenle, who was anticipating his wife's return from church and was sweating profusely had no choice but to turn on the generator to keep himself and the room cool before his wife finally returns from the dangerous sunlight. He had earlier given his wife some flimsy excuses not to attend church service that morning.
It's passed the time she was supposed to get back home, but she wasn't forthcoming. As he picked up the phone to dial her number, she opened the door and tried to sneak in.
"What kept you out till this time, your pastor? This is his last warning." He joked.
"He didn't know that your husband would be missing you." He hugged her and then, noticed the deep cut on the side of her hand.
"What's this on your hand?" He screamed.
"Mmm...I had a slight a accident returning from church."
"An accident?"
"A slight one Mister."
"How is this cut I'm seeing slight? I won't let you go alone to church again. Am I serious at all?" He slapped his cheek.
"Not only church, you're not entitled to go anywhere on your own."
"That's very perfect." she chuckled.
"I think I will have to inform my boss that I'm having a personal assistant soon."
"You're not serious." He gave her a light knock on her head.
"I'm more concerned about my baby. You are free to do whatever you like with yourself just make sure my baby is kicking fine."
"I'm not surprised this is coming from you, but I'm surprised it's coming this early, Daddy baby."
"Don't be jealous mummy baby."He laughed.
"Will you just watch this wound on my hand and do nothing? Come on, do the right thing, Mr man."
"I oblige, your majesty." He bowed.
"Only God knows what you've eaten that's making you act this weird." She rolled her eyes.
"Hurry, this thing is hurting."
