"This Halloween party is going to be awesome!" My best friend Jessica exclaimed as she twirled around in her costume, viewing her reflection in my full-length mirror.
I giggled at her while I finished applying my make up. "How do I look?"
"Beautiful! You'll be the most stunning vampire at the party."
"Thanks."
I touched up my lipstick one more time before being fully satisfied with how my make up looked.
"When did this happen?" Jessica pointed to a small crack in the full-length mirror.
"I'm not sure. That's strange, I didn't see a crack in it yesterday."
"Oh well, it's just a small crack, I'm sure it won't cause too much bad luck."
I rolled my eyes. Jessica was a firm believer in superstitions. To her, cracked or broken mirrors, black cats, and walking under ladders are a few of the many things that can bring a person bad luck, and four-leaf clovers, a rabbit's foot and horse shoes are a few of the many items that can bring a person good luck.
The two of us finished getting ready for the party then headed out. We enjoyed dancing with the guys, a few alcoholic drinks and singing at the top of our lungs to our favorite songs that came on. Forgetting all about my cracked mirror at home.
After the party, I crashed on my bed, still in my costume but I didn't care since I was incredibly exhausted. Since my family is away on a trip for one of my little brother's baseball games, the house was silent, which helped sleep come easily.
The next day, Jessica came over again so we could hang out and go do some shopping together.
"Uh, Lilly, why is your full-length mirror covered?"
"I got a little paranoid about the crack in it." I told her.
"I see. My superstitions are finally wearing off on you aren't they."
"Yeah, I suppose so."
"We can look for a new mirror today while we're out shopping if you want to."
"Yeah, let's do that."
Jessica and I had a good time. We spent the day shopping, chatting, and getting excited about all of the cute items we found in the different stores we visited. We had lunch while we were out then we headed back to my house. Once Jessica left, I took my plethora of shopping bags to my room.
I slipped the sheet off of my cracked, full-length mirror and smiled. When the girl inside saw that the mirror was uncovered, she ran up to it, still wearing her vampire costume, and began banging on her side of the mirror. "Let me out." she mouthed, I'm sure she was shouting as loud as she could, however, from this side, she was completely silent.
"I'm pretty good at pretending to be you. Your friend, Jessica is it, didn't suspect a thing." I told her, knowing all too well that she could hear me. "It sure feels nice to be free. I was getting tired of being your reflection."
With that, I covered the mirror once again then tucked it into the closet and replaced it with the new full-length mirror I bought on our shopping spree.
Beware, your reflection isn't always what it seems...
