" I can walk you out." Liam whispers, switching the movie off and leaving the room. I look over at Jason still sleeping then follow out the door.
"You don't need to walk me out." I say grabbing my bag and phone. Shit. I notice Marcus called me a while ago. Multiple times. How is already 11?
"I was going out anyways. Want to smoke?" He asks pulling a joint from his pocket and holding it up to me. I roll my eyes.
"Sure." I open the front door and he follows behind me. We walk in silence. He doesn't say anything until we are by the front gate.
" So tell me something," Liam starts to say before sitting on the side walk and lighting his joint. "How are you?" He inhaled deeply and passes to me. I sit next to him confused by his question.
"I'm," I start and then take a big hit. "Okay." I say before blowing the smoke out. He watches me for a while before either of us say anything. I take another hit. "I don't know. Things have changed with Marcus and I. It just doesn't seem the same." I say blowing out the smoke and passing the joint to him. He takes a long drag before speaking again. He looks off at nothing in particular and I do the same. Things were different with Marcus. I felt on edge around him and often annoyed.
"He did more, you know." He says quietly. I don't say anything, not quite sure what he is referring to at first. But then it begins to process in my foggy brain. Marcus did more with Tess than he told me.
"Maybe I do." I say so low I don't think he hears. Did I know that he did more? I suspected, but maybe I didn't want to admit it. He takes a big puff of the joint. This is the last thing I want to talk about right now.
"Tell me something nobody knows about you." I say to him. He turns to look at me like I grew a 2nd head. He passes me the joint again. I take a big puff. Holding the smoke in and feeling the effects of the joint. It's like a slow fuzzy feeling that spreads to the whole body.
"I used to play football." I can't help but laugh. I try to cover my mouth, sounding a little more harsh than I intended. "Im serious. I was actually really good. I was a quarterback with a full ride scholarship."
"What happened?"
"I tore my rotator cuff last year and I had to quit. For good. Dreams went out the door. "
"What? That's so crazy."
"Yeah. It was-" he pauses thinking of the words to say. "Tough." he settles on. I want to ask more but suddenly a loud sports car comes down the street and I recognize the sound immediately. I give him the joint as the car slows in front of us and the window rolls down. I stand up to walk towards the car.
"Marcus? What are you doing here?" I move closer to his car and lean down. He looks between the two of us.
"I told you I wanted to come over tonight." He seems upset. I look between Marcus and Liam unsure what to say.
"Yeah, I'm sorr-" I start." You want some?" Liam asks Marcus, holding the joint out to him. Marcus considers it for a minute then nods.
"Sure, thanks." Marcus takes the joint and inhales. He grabs my neck gently and leans me close to his face. He exhales into my mouth and I open my mouth obliging to his pass. He is staring into my eyes and the moment suddenly feels intimate.
