"Captain's log, Stardate 1709.6. We are at the Neutral Zone. Have lost contact with the intruder. There is no reaction on our motion sensors, but believe the Romulan vessel to be somewhere close by. With all engines and systems shut down, Enterprise is also playing the silent waiting game in the hope of regaining contact." -Captain James T Kirk (in Balance of Terror)

The bridge was silent, the lights were dimed, and the crew waited anxiously by their consoles. Torus had ordered for the ship to rig for a silent running. With this plan in action, Torus knew he could confuse his enemy if the intruder was still there.

He left the bridge, went down to deck 4 for, and walked to his personal mess for a drink. The Captain's Mess on a Constitution-Class was about the size of a school bus. The room was situated at the back of the saucer section, and it had a clear view of the Warp Nacelles.

When Torus entered, he saw Captain, who was drinking something from the bar area.

Captain: "Um, something is wrong with your wine."

Torus: "Oh, I guess you aren't aware of synthohol."

Captain: "syntho- what?"

Torus: "synthohol is a synthetic alcohol substitute created by scientists. It recreates the taste, smell, and appearance of alcohol without any of the intoxicating side effects."

Captain: "So... it's fake alcohol?"

Torus: "Yes. But, I do keep a small cache of non synthoholic products here... for special occasions."

The Commodore reached under the bar table, grabbed a bottle of Chateau Picard wine, and poured two glasses. The two men took a quick drink, and they talked about Captain's dad.

Torus: "Your father was an excellent officer and a good friend. He actually led the Federation attack on Obraxis Prime, and his tactics were what won us the battle."

Captain: "Dad did anyways brag about his tactics, I didn't believe him for a while. I guess I believe him now."

Torus: "Hey, um, when this is over, I'll shorten your parole."

Captain: "Thanks, I appreciate that. But, the intruder you're fighting, they're responsible for my father's death, and I want to help you anyway I can."

Torus: "Is this you, or the alcohol talking?"

Captain: "I'm serious, I want to help. I want to avenge my father."

Torus thought for a minute. Should he accept Captain's offer? Should he say 'no'? Questions like these flooded the young Commodore's mind until he made his decision. He stood up and extended his had to Captain.

Torus: "Consider this a field commission, acting Captain Morris. Go to the Wardrobe Department to get a uniform, then report to the bridge."

Captain: "Aye aye, Commodore."

Torus: "dismissed. and please, only use one 'aye' next time. we're not pirates."

------------------------------------------------------------------

The Defiant continued to wait, the tension onboard wearing down the nerves of the crew. Torus, feeling restless, returned to the bridge and surveyed the dimly lit room. He knew they needed to take action to break the stalemate. With a determined expression, he stepped forward and addressed the crew.

Torus: "We can't afford to wait any longer. We need to throw our enemy off-guard. Prepare a probe to send a false signal, and let's create some chaos."

The crew members nodded, their focus shifting to executing Torus' orders. As the probe was prepared and launched, Torus turned to Mr. Egg, the ship's skilled tactical officer.

Torus: "Cadet Donahue, once the false signal is detected, I want you to fire on the area around the probe. We need to show them that we are not to be underestimated."

Mr. Egg acknowledged the order with a nod and swiftly began configuring the weapons systems. Torus watched, his confidence growing as the plan took shape.

The proximity blast Phasers went flying into space and exploded before  the eyes of the bridge crew. Suddenly, the Imperial Marauder decloaked and fired a warning shot that nearly missed the port Nacelle

As the enemy ship vanished from view, Torus clenched his fists, determined to pursue and bring them to justice.

Torus: "Helm, set a pursuit course. We can not let them slip away. Full speed ahead!"

The helmsman swiftly inputted the coordinates, and the Defiant surged forward, its engines roaring to life. Torus turned to the newly appointed Acting Captain, who had joined him on the bridge.

Torus: "Captain Morris, we're in pursuit. Prepare to engage in battle once we catch up. We won't let them escape this time."

Captain: "Aye, Commodore. I won't let my father's sacrifice be in vain. We'll bring them down."

Torus: "That's the spirit, Captain. Let's show them the strength of the Federation. Bridge maintains focus and readiness. We're about to engage in a high-stakes chase."

The crew members exchanged determined glances, their resolve solidifying. The Defiant surged through space, its pursuit of the enemy ship intensifying. The battle for justice had just begun, and the crew was ready to fight until the bitter end.
