Chapter 14

At school
Ellie's POV
I'm at school for the first time since I got suspended. I really don't wanna be here. I haven't even gotten out of the car yet, but I know that when I do, my day's gonna be horrible. I'm on crutches and everybody definitely knows about my fight with Jenna. Jenna's gonna have a lot to say to me, and I'm not in the mood for her and her bullshit.
Dad: Go before you're late.
Ellie: I wanna wait for the halls to clear.
That's not a complete lie. Trying to navigate those halls is hard enough, without crutches. On crutches? Impossible.
Dad: Alright. The late bell rings at-
Ellie: 8:05. I know.
Dad: Are you ok?
Ellie: Yeah. I'm fine.
Dad: If that girl says anything to you, you tell me. Ok? I'll handle it. I don't want you getting in trouble because of her again.
Ellie: She's gonna say something about my ankle. I know she will. She always has something to say about everything. This just gives her something else to pick on me about.
Dad: After what happened, last week, I don't think she'll bother you-
Ellie: That's because you don't know her. She always finds a reason to bother me, even if it's the dumbest reason ever.
Dad: Do you want me to talk to your principal again?
Ellie: No. I don't even know if he did anything about Jenna yet.
Dad: Well, if he didn't, I'm gonna have to talk to him again. He can't just keep letting this girl act like this, simply because she's his daughter. Your my daughter, and I wouldn't let you act like that.
Ellie: I just wanna have one good day, but she's not gonna let that happen.
Dad: Sweetheart, you're gonna be fine. Don't let this girl get to you, before you even go inside the building. You're gonna be ok.
It's 8:04, now. I have less than a minute to get to class.
Ellie: I don't wanna go.
Dad: I know, Sweetheart. But you have to go to school. I'll be here to pick you up, this afternoon. And I want you to tell me if anybody picked on you. Ok?
Ellie: Ok.
Dad: Do you need help getting to class?
Ellie: No. I got it.
Dad: You're sure?
No, but you can't walk around at school with me, all day. So I'll have to figure it out.
Ellie: Yeah.
Dad: Alright. Try to have a good day. Ok?
Ellie: Ok. Bye, Dad.
Dad: Bye, Sweetheart.
I get out of the car and make my way to the school building. Dad parked pretty close, so all I really had to do was walk inside. The halls are pretty much clear, but there's still a lot of people. How the fuck are this many people about to be late for class?
