Most only felt the eyes on them at night, glancing behind them as they hurried through the dark campus. But the gargoyles watched during the day too, observing the students and faculty as they moved through their daily lives. They watched the struggling chemistry major as the fall wind took his study notes, scattering them to the wind. They watched a woman fall to pieces as she found her boyfriend cheating on her. They watched a psychology major trying to find her purpose in her studies. They watched, silently cheering those finding their way forward and in stillness willing encouragement to those struggling. And when the time came and they were once again given movement, they would remember.
