Ding ding
A blonde haired teen swiftly entered the bakery, his pet devil trailing closely behind him as its paws patted along the ground. The male grinned at the worker, his favorite one. "What's up, Miss (Y/n)," he said to her.
The girl looked up from the packages of bread she was working with, a smile on her lips as she replied, "Good morning Denji!"
Denji walked over to the counter as he shuffled through his pockets for cash. (Y/n) untied her apron, tossing it around a hook on the wall as she fled to the costumer end of the counter. Denji stayed put, not looking in her direction as she tossed her arms around her friend. Her action stunned him, but this wasn't the first time she had randomly hugged him. So, he removed his empty hands from his pocket to return the gesture.
He wrapped his hands around her waist, pulling her closer to him so that their bodies left no gap. Stuffing his nose into her neck, he smelled the clean sent of her clothes, and the fresh smell of the bakery's bread.
(Y/n) stood on her toes as she wrapped her hands around his neck, smelling the sent of sweat on him. Pochita pawed at her leg, but Denji's grasp kept her from kneeling down and scooping the dog up into her arms.
Woof!
Finally, Denji released her and Pochita jumped on her leg again. She knelt down, placing her hands under the dogs arms and lifting her up to her level sight. "Hello, Pochita!" she beamed, receiving another bark and an attempted lick at her face.
Once she had returned the devil to the ground, she returned to her side of the counter, putting on her apron and washing her hands as she continued to packaging the bread.
Denji eyed the individually wrapped bread as he surfed his pockets for cash again. The reason he had been coming to this bakery, meeting (Y/n) because of it, is that it was the only bakery in the city that sold individually wrapped slices of bread. Not being able to purchase a whole loaf due to his financial troubles meant that this was now his go-to bakery. Having a friend, and such an attractive one at that, gave him all the more reason to visit.
Pulling out 120¥, Denji let the coins roll out of his hand and onto the counter. (Y/n) turned her head to see what the noise was, and then to inform him, "I have my lunch break in a little bit. Why don't you wait and come with me? I'll pay."
"I'll pay."
She knew about Denji well enough to know that he only ever bought bread. She also knew enough to know that he appreciated her care. She knew all about him, and this is what made Denji feel guilty about his debt. Her offers to pay for his meals where he could never return the money were at first a dream come true. She treated him kindly, paying for his meals whenever they would go somewhere together. But with no possible way to pay for her meal just once, he hoped that she wouldn't always feel obligated to care for him.
Denji sighed, almost annoyed. "Can't you just let me buy some bread?"
His voice may have upset any other worker, but as she set down the plastic wrap, (Y/n) smiled at him. "You know I'll always treat you to whatever you'd like, so just let me take you to lunch, okay?"
Denji looked away from his coins towards her soft expression. Through his eye, he could see that she wasn't upset with him.
"Okay."
