As I opened the school door I saw lots of kids chattering and as I hung up my coat and hat, I felt lots of girl eyes on me.. They all seemed to be gathered around one person. Gilbert. I went to walk past since he seemed busy but he pulled me by the arm "y/n! Good to see you" he said, "good to see you too Gilbert. I'm just going to Diana if you could excuse me!" I said nervously. Omg why did I do that? Why didn't I talk to him?!? I saw Diana stand up with a few girls, and one of them was...ANNE!
I ran over and as she saw me she held her arms out to let me leap into them, "ANNE!!" I said, she was my childhood best friend but she moved away form the orphanage since she was adopted a while ago.
"I'VE MISSED YOU SO MUCH!" I said excitedly, "have I missed something..?" Diana asked, and Anne explained it. "Oh.. and by the way y/n, this is Josie-pye, ruby and Jane!" She said, them waving at me each. After a bit class started, and as I expected, boring as usual. But I couldfeel a pair of eyes one me, and as I turned my head slightly, Gilbert's and i eyes locked, but suddenly I looked away, I could see his smirk from just my mind. At lunch I sat with the girls behind a curtain where apparently 'no boys can hear'. I felt a tap in my shoulder and we all turned our heads to see who it was. "May I steal y/n for a second?" Gilbert asked, "no-" ruby started "yes of course Gilbert" Diane finished.
I got up to speak with Gilbert and asked, "what did you need?" "Uh nothing I just wanted an excuse to talk" he said which made me laugh. "I feel special" I joked, "oh but do you want to walk home with me today? Our paths cross over." He asked, "of course!" I replied,smiling, heading back over to where I found a crying ruby.
"Y/n why did you do that!!" Josie asked me, "d- do what?" I asked, "you talked to Gilbert Blythe!ruby has dibs on him!" She finished, "wha- you can't dibs a person, he's him free self!" I replied, and as they got us to leave I said, "fine! I'm sorry, I didn't know, I will stay away!" I said, "good" Jane said as they walked away, leaving me, Diana, and Anne."ignore them, I don't believe In the dibs either! Plus you and Gilbert would be cute together!" Anne said jokingly, "oh be quiet!" I said, "he's also staring at you know!" Diana said, and as I turned my head he winked at me, "ohhhh my god!" I said, suddenly turning my head around.
At the end of the day, I left quickly, trying to avoid Gilbert. But like I expected, he caught up. "Hey y/n why'd you go so early?" He asked "..." I stayed silent, "are you mad at me?" he repeated, "No." I said as I walked off. I can't believe I'm ignoring him for a girl who most likely doesn't like me.
"Cmon just tell me why your avoiding me? Did I do something?" He asked, grabbing my wrist."No it's nothing!!" I yelled at him as I yanked my wrist and walked of. Honestly I did feel bad, but he's just a stupid boy. Friends matter more! I will not betray ruby, I promised her and I can't break it.
