Losing Kyland

Lunch Reminders

As she walked into her first class she walked straight to her seat and looked at the empty chair where Kyland sat wishing he would be there to sit by her and discuss the weekend and plans they had. Nobody touched that seat and it stayed there empty. As the students filled the aisles Jade noticed a familiar face walking to her. She ran to the guy she knew all too well and wrapped her small arms around him. Conner, Kylands best friend and Riverside's quarterback. When Kyland wasnt with Jade you could find him with conner they have been best friends since freshman year when they made the varsity football team.
As a few stray tears left both of the, that began to open the door for some of the other football players to come to jade and hug her. Everyone else acted as if she was fragile and about to break.
As classes ended it was the same routine she would walk the same path wright past his locker and touch one of the flowers and pictures that people have posted on and around his locker along with a few notes like one Conner left that she had to take a moment to read Conners not read:
To Kyland my best friend and brother,
I love you like we were the same. We always made waves and worked as one on the football field promising I will do great things and everything I do I will dedicate to you. You should be celebrating playoffs with us but instead we have to go into playoffs and try to win without you, our star running back. We as a team will do everything we possibly can to make you proud and in your honor become state champions.

After reading that she began to tear up and make her way to lunch. She made it to the cafeteria and sat in her seat. She began to think about the last lunch that she had with Kyland. The day she lost him.

On September 16, 2022 at lunch Jade sat with Kyland as she did everyday since they started dating almost one year ago. She was waiting for him to sit down as he sat down and he wrapped his arms around her. The quiet table began to get loud as the rest of the jerseys and girlfriends surrounded the tables that made up the football players.
Kyland and Conner were discussing something that happened in Gym the period before that they found extremely funny. Jade turned to Lyla, Conner's girlfriend of two years and began discussing homecoming that night. They had both been nominated for homecoming court, along with Ashley who was student council president. Lyla and Jade were discussing how they were going to do their hair when they walked out on the field to see who was homecoming queen. Kyland would walk Jade and Conner would walk Lyla.
Jade had assumed that she had only been nominated simply because she is dating Kyland, she fully expected Lyla to get queen and she was okay with that because over the past year Lyla had become Jade's best friend.
As lunch continued Kyland and Jade began discussing this weekend. Jade's birthday was on Thursday so they could not do much because of school and football practice but Kyland had planned a full Saturday of events for them. The day would include things like going to the zoo, going to the movies, and out to dinner.
As they continued planning the bell rang, signifying the end of lunch and the beginning of the last class. Kyland walked Jade to class as he did every day, neither of them knowing this would be the last time they would be in the hallway together. As they were walking she began to think about how lucky she was to have someone like Kyland simms in her life.
