They had his funeral today. This was the hardest day of Jade's life. She doesn't know how to smile or have any sense of closure. Without Kyland here Jade feels nothing. She is broken and confused with no sense of life or direction. All Jade wants is my boyfriend Kyland back. He should be here turning eighteen, celebrating with his family.

She went in and got ready for the celebration of life they were about to have for him. She had decided on wearing the red flannel she wore on their first date and a simple pair of jeans with her white Nike Air Force ones. She grabbed a picture of the two of them on Christmas to hang up on the bulletin board that was set out for pictures of Kyland.

Susanna had asked Jade if she would be able to say something. She had politely refused to talk at the funeral because she knew she would not be able to get the words out. She knew this would be the best moment to say something about the love of her life.

As she headed down her stairs she ignored the calls from her mother and headed straight to her car to drive to Kylands.

As she got to Kyland's she looked around and saw people she didn't know. Kyland was a people person, he always talked to people. Jade swears he never met a stranger and Susanna and Jewel would say the same thing. Kyland and Jade were two people who were complete opposites and yet they worked so perfectly together. She believed it was fate that opposites do attract.

She clutched her purse and the notebook that was inside. The notebook had her speech inside along with the picture she was going to post on the board after her speech.

The backyard looked amazing. Balloons and food everywhere. People were in the pool, by the table, and the football players were gathered around each other talking. She heads to the podium on the other side of the pool and stood beside Jewel and Susanna. Susanna walks up to the microphone and begins to speak catching everyone's eyes.

" Thank you for being here tonight to celebrate the life and eighteenth birthday of Kyland Ray Simms. We all want to thank you and begin with anyone who wants to say anything about Kyland. First, we want to bring up someone very special to Kyland and our family. We have been blessed enough to have her in our lives for the past year. Miss Jade Lee Jordan." she had tears in her eyes. As Jade walked and hugged her. Jade cleared her throat and began to speak.

" Kyland Simms. He was my best friend and true love. I have known him since I moved here at the beginning of junior year. We began dating very early but it did not matter. He was the one person I could call on when it came to needing someone. I may never love someone like I love Kyland. Honestly, I don't think I will. He was the one person who I could come to, the one who understood all of my flaws. The person who loved me even though he did. He because the love of my life from the moment we first met. I have never met someone like him. We took this picture that I chose to hang up on Christmas last year. We decided to wear matching pajamas. One thing we loved to do is to write little notes on the back of our pictures this is what I wrote on this one. Kyland, Merry Christmas from the one who loved you most. The best Christmas present I ever got was you giving me your heart. This has been the best eighty-six days of my life. Love you forever Jade."

With that, I felt a warm tear fall down my cheek and I hung the picture up and walked off of the podium into the house and went to his room, and walked out on the connecting balcony. I always loved his balcony. I always wanted a place in my house to just be alone looking at the stars. I do have a bay window that we loved, but something about being on the balcony at night feeling the chill of the crisp night air has always soothed me when I would stay at his place and we would sit and talk for hours and hours on end.

I sat in his lounge chair and watched everyone talking and enjoying the event. I have has enough socializing for one night I just wanted to chill here for a while looking at the stars. As I was watching the sky a shooting star passed by. I truly believe that with all of my heart it way Kyland watching down on us, on me. I smiled for the first time at the shooting star, looked into the sky, and said "Happy eighteenth Birthday my love, Kyland Ray Simms."
