All my life till this day I had never been to a traditional healer bit here I was standing outside a hut with a lot of smoke coming out
"Walk fast" Methuda said causing me to walk behind her
"Remove your shoe..." Before she could finish a tall man walked out and stared at us, me mostly
" You need to go back home, I don't have answers for you " he said and turned back going into his hut
"What now?" I asked her cause this was strange
"Let's go" I don't even know where I am being taken but I just follow her. We walked until my legs complained with pain.
"We are here" she said and I saw a line of people and we stood inline and a tent I knew it was the white garmen apostolic church. We waited until I was starting to feel hungry and ready to give up. A lady in white garments came from the tent and stood directly in front of me
"Follow me" she said and we both stood up
"Where are we going" I whispered but Methuda shushed me
"Pindai (get in)" she said and we went into the tent and kneeled before a man, he had a white garments with a tall wooden stick and a very white beard that made me think of father Christmas
"Your presence is disturbing my spirit, pray with a white candle every morning then when you sleep light a white candle with a green candle, sleep with them alight. When you pray light a yellow candle with a white one and with a dish of water with bay leafs to cleanse your dreams" he said looking at me
"Hold your hands out" he asked and I did and he drew the cross inside my hands with oil and as he came for my forehead
"Don't" I said and he withdrew his hand
"Um ..mm you can leave" he said and I stood up not even waiting for my friend. He was heavy if that was a term I could use, I'm sure he used other methods to become a prophet. We left and go to the main road and turned to Methuda
"Never let that man pray for you again. He uses black magic hence many people and no problem is solved" I told her and she shook her head
"Wow, ok madam. The way you removed your head from him touching it hah!" She said clapping her hands and I laughed a bit
"That man will catch fire oneday " I said as we walked home. It's 3 days later and I got ready to go to the market, I needed to cool down from the marathon I had a few days to rest my legs now it's time to work I took my list and bag then walked out so I could get a taxi
"Where to?" Tawana asked from the road
"Mind your business" I sassed earning a laugh, I found a taxi and got in. The conductor smelled bad like why wake up and not bathe at all. I sat far away from him and opened a window.
"Haa veduwe munhu ungatadzewo kugeza (why can't you bath) this early in the morning" a brave woman said earning a glare from the hwindi (conductor)
"Imi mother musade kundinzwa, kufuta kwenyu maudzwa nani muri kubhadhara ( eh mother don't try me, you are fat but who said that to you, you will pay) two seats ipapo (there)" he said rudely and I almost laugh, conductors in Zimbabwe are the meanest people you will ever find and they have a response for anything and everything and this lady just got served. I got to the market and paid then walked to the busy place, I bumped into people and didn't apologize because we were all occupied with what we need to do. I got all the sweets and small chocolates including the snacks now it was time to negotiate on the box of biscuits
"How much a box my brother" I said looking at the differences of the boxes and how much each box contained
"$3 my sister per box" he said with his yellow teeth all out making me frown
"My brother why are you expensive, let me try your neighbor maybe he is cheaper than you" I said ready to walk
" My sister don't leave let's talk, how much do you have?" He asked making me smile, now thats what I would like to hear
"I have $4 and I want two boxes" I said with no remorse
"Add a dollar my sister my family needs that small profit" he said rubbing his large stomach. I gave him the $5 and collected my two boxes. I placed them neatly in a sack and placed the sack on top of my head. I walked to were I could get a lift but I saw a very familiar face selling tomatoes just as I thought I was hallucinating he turned and saw me he flashed a smile before getting busy once again
"My heart please be normal we can't have him" I said to myself as I walked away. I get to the gate and placed my sack beside the gate and I stood beside it waiting for a taxi
"Hello" a voice startled me
"Musa hi" I said mentally patting myself on the back
"You look beautiful today" he said with a smile he had on shades since it was hot
"Thank you" I said feeling shy
"Here, for you. I would like to see you on Sunday" he said making me smile, I took the paperbag full of tomatoes
"Thank you. Ok Sunday is fine" I said just as a taxi stopped before me and the conductor took my stuff and I smiled at Musa
"Bye" I said
"I will call you" he said turning back to his truck and I sat in the taxi.
"Does he have my number?" I asked myself after a whileGetting off the taxi with my stuff I was already tired. I hated Going to the market since it was a bit far from my house. But I'm lucky I had found a taxi that dropped me off my gate, which saved me the hustle of carrying all these things by head again. My house was now a bit different too. It was now greener, the dry soil decided to finally bless itself with some grass and it was lush as if I watered it everyday. Even the dead flowers were budding and I smiled looking at the yellow flowers which I didn't notice in the morning. I walked inside my house with my hands full and I was struggling with my stuff
"Gogogoi" someone shouted from outside the gate and I place my stuff on the floor and walked to stand on the door so I could see who was calling me out and it was Methuda
"When did you start calling me out? You used to just barge in and do as you please" I said earning a wolf whistle from her
"Yerrrrr girl, is that you now?" She said walking towards me making me smile. This is my friend not that one trying to pretend she has manners
"And why were you knocking?" I asked making her laugh
"I thought you sold the house. It's way lovely than when I came a few days back. I mean it looked like the house was dying" she said leaving me on the door walking inside the house. Did I mention she has a loose tongue? She says whatever that is in her head
"Well now it's reliving" I said closing the door and following her so I could properly unpack
"Woah, what's all this?" She said feeling the material I got
"I'm starting something small. I want to sew clothes and sell but I'm starting with myself and I will advertise that way. I also got the material from Mai Rumbi when she came from Zambia" I said sitting on my run down sofa that I plan on changing
"That's good. I support you, plus I still remember how nice your clothes were so I will be your first customer" she said making me smile . That's how the rest of the day was spent, the house didn't feel as lonely as it used to. She left around 4 pm so her kids and husband finds her home. Between the two of us, she has the most successful marriage. Her family are my inspiration to date. I was feeling a bit under the weather so I decided to sleep for a few minutes.
Darkness was all I saw but I could hear someone breathing heavily, loud barking of dogs and man shouting. I could feel the pain and tiredness but the determination of wanting to survive. I woke up with a gasp and the sweat running down my neck
"Please guide me, I don't know what is happening" I silently said with little tears falling down my face. I decided to go and bath since my body was wet with sweat. I took a bath and I walked slowly to my kitchen. I switched on my gas stove, I'm that type that can cook no matter how tired I was. I boiled the last batch of potatoes I did had, some carrots too and rice. I was going to eat even if I wasn't that hungry. I finished cooking, then sorted my things in preparation of tomorrow. I cleaned my dirty dishes and went to my bedroom, I was planning on buying a new bed with my little savings. The house looked lively. Waking up in the morning I was excited for no reason. I did have a weird dreams, I saw a black python snake slithering in the green grass but what was surprising was that where it passed it left dead grass or flowers, I woke up panting when I noticed the time it was a little after 1 am. I took a candle and lit it and placed it in the corner of my room, I had no idea why I did but I did and I went back to sleep, that's how I woke up excited and happy. I haven't felt like that in a while. I cleaned my room and I took a bath, as I was changing I saw the candle in my reflection
"Wait! Isn't it supposed to have been finished by now?" I asked myself turning to look at the brightly shining candle. Weird, I left my room leaving the candle burning. I didn't feel the need to blow it out so I left it in that corner. I took my basket and made my way to the frontgate so I can put my things on display I need more things for my table. As I finished displaying I went back inside to take some material so I can hang for those interested they can buy, I hanged then then noticed my grass was growing
"How is this weed growing this..." I hardly finished my statement when I heard a baby cry
I turned looking around for the child that was crying but there was nothing. I shook my head and kept walking inside the houseSomewhere in the North
"Find her" a man roared at his guards
"My Lord we have searched everywhere but we can't seem to find her" a man in a guard uniform said to the man sitting on the throne
"Call the seer we need to find her before it's too late" the older man said to the guard. It was clear he was stressed
"My Lord you called" a man with many necklace and he smelt of herbs
"Find her" the king roared
"She is gone, your ancestors are blinding me and they are protecting her" he said laying his small mat and he sat looking at the king. He took his bones from a small pouch and threw them on the mat, he looked at them for a few minutes and he groaned and burped
"Interesting" he said as he looked at the King
