I am enjoying myself on this beautiful view.

I have decided to take a trip to Greece. To visit our family summer home. A cliff-top house on the island of Naxos.

I took a plane to Athens, and then from the port, I got the ferry to the island. It was an amazing crossing, not a cloud in the sky, and the weather was calm and glassy flat.

When I reached Naxos, I hired a car, and drove along the coast to the house. It had belonged to my father’s ancestors.

The house itself was dusty. I am going to talk to our house keeper later to have it clean while I’m staying here.

The house was stunningly situated, perched on a cliff overlooking the deep blue Aegean Sea. Steps had been carved into the rock, going down the cliff face, leading to the beach below.

It had mingled with grains of sand making the beach glow pink against the blue sea and sky.

Napaka payapa at maligaya. So magical. I remember when our dad was still alive, he used to bring us here every vacation. I could feel myself relaxing already. How I missed my family.

I spent the first couple of days unwinding and lazing on the beach. I am happy I have come. Nakakapag relax na ako for the first time after my hectic sched. Ginugol ko ang mga oras ko sa pag babasa ng old thrillers sa may dagat, happily engrossed in The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides  habang nakahiga sa sun lounger. This is life.

On the third day, I decided to drive up into the hills and see the famous temple.

I remember visiting the ancient temple as a child, wandering the ruins, and investigating it with all kinds of magic in my imagination. Gusto kong maranasan ulit iyon ngayon.

Binaybay ko ang lumang paikot na daanan. As I climbed higher into the hills, pakipot nang pakipot ang daanan. Makalipas ang ilang minuto, I reached the top hill with a heavy breathing.

And there, at the very top, sa isang talampas ay matatanaw ang isang sirang templo. The Ancient Greek temple was built from Naxian marble, once gleaming but now dirty white and weather-beaten.

All that stood, after three thousand years, was a handful of broken columns silhouetted against a blue sky.

The man was tall, muscular, and soaking wet. Saan siya naligo? Sa dagat? Did he climb the hill without me noticing it? His shirt and trousers were sticking to him, his black hair plastered across his face, blinding him. He reached up, parted his hair, peered out, and saw me.

“What a lucky day. I never thought I would see you here, Isabella Mendes.”
