She shook her head.

"Are you sure?" Her mother inquired.

"Nahihiya na ako kausapin si Papa, Ma. It's been what? Ten years, and hindi ko na alam paano ako makikitungo sa kanya."

"Ano ka ba, kung ano yung Papa mo noon ganun pa rin siya ngayon, Aiks. He really wanted to talk to you."

Aika smiled at her mother. She felt hesitant to talk to her father right now but she knows that there is no time to take this long. So, she slowly nod which means she was okay.

Leni genuinely smile as she saw her daughter's response.

"Where is he?" Aika asked.

"Nasa bahay siya, sasabihan ko siyang pumunta dito para makapag usap kayong dalawa kung ok lang sayo" Leni said to sure if its's fine.

Aika smiled and nodded.

Leni swiftly stood up and walked back to Jesse's house.

Aika was left alone. She felt nervous knowing she will now talk to her father again after how many years.

Before, she hoped every day that maybe one day she would talk to him again, that maybe one day she would tell him how much she missed him, and maybe one day she could give him a hug and tell him how much she loved him. And today, those hopes will be fulfilled.


"Aiks?"

That voice, that familiar voice interrupted her thoughts. A very familiar feeling that last night and right now gives her body a shiver. She wanted to turn her back but was afraid of what will happen to her.

"Aika, anak"

That word, those four letters, entice her to finally face him.

And there she found her Papa Jesse.

"Papa," she said as a warm tear fell from her eyes.

She dashed over to hug him.

"Papa," those small tears merge into a sob and a tight embrace.

"I'm sorry, Aiks," Jesse murmured as she hugged her daughter.

This is the reunion she never imagined would happen.

Under the palm trees, facing the beautiful sea while being serenaded by the sounds of small waves, the explanation that she wanted to hear finally came. Why the tragedy happened, what happened to him after the accident, and how her mother found out that her father was still alive

She connects the dots between all the explanations her mother had given her and the person she is shakily speaking with at the moment. And in fact, each of those explanations answered the queries she had been musing over.

"Sorry Aiks, sorry dahil natakot akong magpakita sa inyo after the accident" Jesse said.

They were now seated among the palm trees. The wind helps to ease his nervousness about talking to her daughter. He is aware that Aika is still in shock, given the fact that he is still alive.

"No, pa, After I heard your explanation, I'm convinced that nagsakripisyo ka rin para sa amin. Kahit na gustong gusto mo nang magpakita, you still choose to protect us." Aika smiled at him. He never thought that Aika was such a grown-up lady.

He looked at her daughter and smiled. "Malaki ka na talaga, Aiks. The last time that we talked was before the accidents. Yung nangungulit ka pa sakin through phone call about your job and yung away niyo ni -" Jesse didn't finish his words because Aika interrupts him.

"Papa naman, you still remember that. My god." Aika said as she facepalm.

He chuckles and clung her right hand around Aika.
