After Charlotte's transport finally arrived and she went through another medical check, they were finally allowed to see her. Nick had gotten some medication, helping him to relax a little, even though Meredith noticed that he was still extremly tense. Knowing that words wouldn't help him much right now, she just tried to be by his side, letting him rest his head on her shoulder, offering him her embrace and comfort when he was searching for it.

When the doctors informed them, that they could see Charlotte, she took his hand squeezing it slightly, while she felt Nick taking a few deep breaths before they walked towards her room.

And even though they knew and have seen many patients after surgeries, with unimaginable injuries, she could feel how much it scared Nick, to see his niece laying in this hospital bed.

Meredith brought her other hand to the one she was already holding, slightly caressing his arm for comfort, as Nick took a step closer to Charlotte, carefully taking her hand in his, letting his thump caress over hers.

"Charlotte." He whispered. "I- I need you to wake up, Charlotte." Meredith could hear his voice breaking, she could see the tears forming and falling out his eyes now. "Please. I love you."

At his words Meredith tried to hold back her own tears, trying to be strong for him, trying to hold herself together to be there for him.

She took a deep breath, before getting the chair that was standing in the corner of the room, giving it to Nick, so he could sit down beside his niece. Meredith sitting down beside him, on another chair.

They stayed in the room for some hours, Meredith having fallen asleep for some moments, half, leaning against Nick now. Until she woke up by Nick calling her, having felt how Charlotte squeezed his hand.

Still a little sleepily, Meredith got up as well, hoping that Charlotte really was waking up, but when she saw her weakly trying to open her eyes, Meredith quickly paged her doctors, having to hold herself together pretty hardly, reminding herself that she wasn't her doctor right now, while the other doctors made their job.

Once they were done, reassuring them that Charlotte was responding very well, and seeing themselves that Charlotte was fine and even talked a few words, she could feel some relieve wash over her.

Nick was sitting beside Charlotte again, Charlotte smiling at him tiredly, while he was caressing her hand. Meredith got closer to them, letting her hand caress over Nick's back, who gave her a small thankful smile, before she put a small kiss into his hair.

"I'll give you some time." She whispered, smiling at Charlotte one more time before she left the room.

While she left Nick to spend some time with his niece, she took the moment to call her kids and her sisters, to keep them updated, but also to make sure they were okay as well.

When she got back, she saw Nick having fallen asleep, his chest and head laying on Charlotte's bed. She found a small smile on her lips, knowing how exhausted he was from all the stress and worry. And while she thought Charlotte was asleep as well, she was wrong, as she saw her turn her head carefully in her direction, giving her a small smile.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Meredith stated softly.

"I have felt better before..." She answered quietly before she added trying to lighten the mood a little "But the pain killers are helping..."

"They are quite effective." Meredith smiled at her.

"Yeah."

"Can I?" Meredith asked, pointing at the chair next to her bed and Nick.
