Chapter 1: Closing Hour

Sun's POV:

It was finally closing time for the daycare and I was exhausted. I love the children, but they drain my energy way too fast. The daycare was empty, and a complete mess at that, which meant I had to clean the whole area by myself. Sighing, I get to work putting toys away, cleaning tables, and restocking the snack box underneath the security desk for tomorrow. My mind begins to wander as I clean, so I don't notice the great big wooden doors at the daycare's entrance open. 

"...SUN!!" Suddenly I snap to attention and hit my head on the top of the desk I'm under. I get up off the floor and rub the back of my head. A security guard stood on the other side of the desk, he had a sour expression on his face, "I've been trying to get your attention for the past 3 minutes! You need to head to Parts and Services for your check-up."

I hate those check-ups, at the end of each week I get sent there so that those mechanics can make sure everything is working properly. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to stay on during the whole process; the mechanics talk about me to each other as if I'm not there. I don't really mind it, but sometimes they say things about me, unkind things, as if it wouldn't have an effect on me. It's like they have this mindset that I'm just a robot, just another chunk of metal.

"Do I really have to go?" I ask. I already know that the security guard will make me go anyways, so I'm not surprised when he says, "Yes Sun, you know it's mandatory. We have this talk every week, you have to go in so-"

"'So that I'm in shape for peak performance' I know, I know..." I interrupt as I head towards the doors. "You don't need to remind me."
