"The gate," Sam, Dustin, and Steve said as they all looked at each other.

This can't be real. How could this be real? Sam thought as they all hurried back down the stairs.

"I don't understand. You've seen this before?" Robin clarified.

"Not exactly," Sam responded.

"Then what, exactly?"

"All you need to know is it's bad," Dustin told her.

"It's really bad," Steve agreed.

"Like, end-of-the-human-race-as-we-know-it kind of bad," Sam started freaking out. "Like, everything we've all worked for is going to go to shit and we're all going to die kind of bad."

She knew there was a chance something went wrong with the gate, but she didn't want to know it was open. How could it be open? Could El close it again? Holy shit, is Will okay?

"And you know about this how?" Robin questioned.

Before anyone could answer, Erica spoke up. "Uhm, Steve? Where's your Russian friend?"

Sam looked around to see that the man Steve had knocked out was gone. Just then, an alarm started blaring.

"Shit," Steve muttered as he ran to the door and opened it, realizing that the Russians had seen them.

He slammed the door shut and rushed them all through a small hallway. They went through a couple doors and through the control room. They came to a stop at a dead end, next to the machine that was reopening the gate. The group rushed down another flight of stairs, Steve knocking over metal barrels to stall the Russians. They reached another room and Steve pushed himself against the door, the soldiers right outside, trying to open it. He yelled for Robin, and she ran to help keep it closed.

Sam clenched her fists, and that was when she realized that the ring she had been wearing was gone. She stared ahead of her, her vision blurry with tears. She needed that ring.

"Sam, come on!" Dustin shouted, but she couldn't move.

"Go!" Steve yelled to her. "Go with them to get help!"

"I need to get it back."

"Get what?! Just go!"

Right now, she couldn't process that her life was more important than that ring. But, it was the only gift her father had ever given her, and though she hated him, Sam wanted to hold onto the one good memory she had. It was a little too small and squeezed her finger, but she wore it everyday.

Sam turned, but Dustin and Erica were already gone. Suddenly, the door flew open and Robin and Steve fell back, Sam toppling with them.
The soldiers stood in front of them and pointed their guns. The Russians knocked the three of them out, one by one.
