Day one of school was here! Shard jumped out of his frostbreath-coated bed and shook Weakart so that he would wake up. Weakart jumped out of his bed and fell to the floor, making Shard feel a little guilty
"Your so cold!" Weakart joked. "Please don't do that ever again."
"Sorry, but I'm just so excited for today!" Shard said.
"Really?" Weakart asked. "Because when I first met you, you were never excited."
Shard just shrugged and the two headed for their first class, History. According to Weakart, the year before they'd had a different history teacher, but he retired and now Shards father was teaching their class.
Shard felt better at the thought of his very own father teaching things. Sure, the others would probably be ok teachers, but he would rather have his own family teach him things and make him feel not as closed off.
"What is your father really like?" Weakart asked. "I know I've met him, but not as much as you."
"Well, he's a lot nicer than most Icewings," Shard explained. "He is a genius when it comes to scavengers, and no offense to your parents, but he'll probably be my favorite teacher in the school."
"Understandable" Weakart said, laughed. "My parents are both horrible teacher! Well, my dad is an ok poetry teacher, I just don't like poetry and he doesn't get it. I love my parents, but they sometimes get on my nerves!"
"So your nothing like your parents?" Shard asked.
"No way!"
Shard eventually saw Lucas waving at them from the class cave, so they walked over and found their seats inside. Before class, Shard had a talk with his dad which was cool, but then school started so he had to take his seat.
"Welcome everyone to history class!" his dad started. "My name is Mr. Winter and I'll be your history teacher. I know most people would start off with a lesson, but Im not going to do that!"
The whole class excluding Shard cheered in amazement, but he could not join in. One, he wanted to learn because until a week ago that was his only friend! He still wanted to learn from the magical world of books! And two was he knew what his father would have them do instead.
"So we're going to introduce ourselves! I'll have our Seawing start us off."
Weakart stood up from his spot on the ground and began to tell everyone about himself. Unlike Shard, he was a much more open dragon and didn't seem to be someone who would pass up and opportunity like this.
"My names Weakart!" he started. "I'm actually a Rainwing-Seawing hybrid and the son of Turtle and Kinkajou. They were some of the dragons who saved eveyone from the evil Darkstalker all those years ago!"
The class, this time including Shard, all stood in awe at the fact of his parents deeds. Sure, Shards dad did the same thing but he never liked to brag about it. Hearing about what they did moved Shard, but not entirely. He was still not doing an adventure like that!
"Ok." Winter said. "That was interesting and brings back some terrific memories!"
"We're you in that group who saved the continent too?" the Skywing of the group asked.
"I was." Winter said. "But I wasn't one of the big members. Besides, I don't really care anymore and like my life with my son now. Well next we can have our Skywing."
"We'll my names Copper." she said. "I'm the daughter of Clay and Peril and love the school so far! So many dragons!"
"We'll ok then." Winter laughed. "How about our Mudwing?"
"Uh... hi. My names Moss and uh... yeah." she said.
"Who are your parents? Anyone we'd know?"
"Um... my dads Gharial and my mums Crystal" she mumbled.
Shard was starting to like his classmates. Just like him, Moss seemed to be shy and not as eager to be the center of attention. Something he could relate to in life was how she acted. Maybe they could be friends.
"So your my cousins daughter?" Winter asked her, to which she nodded. "That's cool! Well I guess we could have our Rainwing."
"Hey." The girl started. "My names Sky and I'm Glory and Deathbringer daughter."
"Hold up!" Winter stopped. "So your inline for the Rainwing throne?!"
"Yes." Sky said, shifting talons. "It's not really a big deal. And besides, I have two older sisters."
"Some interesting dragons we have here!" Winter laughed. "Next should be our Nightwing."
"Wasup y'all!" Lucas yelled. "I'm Lucas and am a hybrid between a Nightwing and Sandwing. My parents also stopped Darkstalker and are like suuuuuuper coooool!"
"Is he ok?" Shard whispered to Weakart.
"He's trying to impress that Skywing."he explained.
"Isn't he a little young for love?"
Weakart just shrugged. Shard was a little confused at how someone could fall so quickly! He knew his father had fallen at a young age, but he didn't actually get a partner until way later! Wasn't this a little too soon?
"Well alrighty!" Winter laughed. "Next up I guess will be our Sandwing!"
"Well my names Sandstorm you nerds and don't forget it!" she snapped. "I'm Moon and Qibli's better kid and I run this school! Sandstorm rules you idiots!"
Shard shuddered at her harsh language. He'd seen people who were prideful and jerks before, but they weren't this horrific! How could she sleep at night knowing she was crushing others under her claws?
"Hmm" Winter hummed, eying her. "I guess our Icewing will be last."
"Well my names Shard and my dads Winter." Shard said.
"Why ya so scared?" Sandstorm asked. "Are ya chicken?"
Shard cowered at her harsh words. It's was like this all the time! He would start talking, not even stuttering, and be called a chicken, coward, and weak! And he couldn't do anything's because he was scared! The only person who would ever come to his aid was...
"Please" Winter scoffed. "You act like your all special, but everyone knows that deep down your nothing but a pile of dirt, kid."
"Excuse me?!" she gasped.
"Yeah you heard me!" Shard's father yelled in frustration. "Now sit down! This keeps happening and you'll be sent to detention! So I don't want to hear anymore of this!"
Everyone seemed to be more happy with the downfall of Sandstorm, and for a minute Shard was feeling good. That wouldn't last...
As he walked alone out of the class, Sandstorm caught him and took him to the ground. He was so scared and no one seemed to even care about the situation, only some looking at it in fear.
"Your father ruined my reputation, punk." she growled. "Now it's time you payed for what you've done!"
"Please." Shard choked out.
"No more pleases!"
She raised her claws in anger. Before she could swipe at Shard's face thought, a icy-white shape barreled onto her, taking her clean off of Shard. Once again, it was his father coming to Shard's aid!
"You doing specifically what I said not to?" he growled.
"Uh..." she gasped. "I'm sorry! I was being reckless."
"You definitely were!" Winter snarled. "Now I'm taking you to your mom and dad to tell them what you've done!"
He dragged her away and Shard was able to walk from the incident. All around, dragons were gossiping about what had happened, most calling Winter the enforcer and a hero to their school. Shard was amazed, but also worried.
He may have just made his first school enemy!
