We walked down the street in silence not saying a single word to each other. I knew the area well so I walked towards a late night cafè that I knew of. I agreed to hear what Max had to say. Mainly because I wanted to be able to get the closure I deserved. When we got to the cafe Max opened the door for me and placed his hand on my lower back as I walked through.
We sat at a table still not talking, just looking at each other. "Go on then, let's hear it" I said starting the conversation as the silence was killing me. His eyes widen but he didn't say anything back.
"Are you literally not going to say anything?" I said leaning back into my chair and crossing my arms.
"I fucked up" he replied, his voice was low and there was a pained look on his face.
"so did you make the bet then?"
he nodded in response to my question and replied "yeah I did". That was all I needed to hear I went to get up out of my chair. "It was before though" he continued his words stopping me.
"before what" I asked in response.
Max sighed "before I couldn't bare to be apart from you" his words hit me hard, I sat in silence whilst he continued. "as soon as we got close I called it off, I felt so guilty" his voice started to crack.
"and how did Kelly know?" As soon as I asked the question the expression on his face changed to confusion.
"She didn't know" he replied.
"well she did because she's the one that told me" I snapped back at him.
"I honestly don't know Kace, only the engineers knew maybe Troy told her" Max shook his head as he spoke I was like he was trying to figure it out for himself.
"so everyone had a nice little laugh behind my back" I could barely get the words out as tears started falling down my face. I felt so humiliated and I couldn't believe that someone who loved me would ever make me feel this way.
We continued talking for a while. Max explained everything about the bet being before we met up again in Bahrain and that he hated himself for even agreeing to it in the first place. I believed him, everything he said sounded genuine. Whilst every part of me wanted to forgive him, I knew deep down that I shouldn't. I couldn't be with someone that humiliated me and lied to me for months. Eventually we had both finished saying what we had to say and I got up to leave.
Max stood up and came towards me "So what is this it for us" he asked gently. I just nodded in response. I knew that if I said yes out loud I'd break, I had to be strong right now and not show any weakness. "Can I atleast hug you goodbye?" His voice was soft and he stepped forward opening his arms. I moved into his embrace and wanted to melt into his arms. Max tightened his arms around me and kissed me on the head before whispering "I'm gonna miss you Wolff cub".

When I got back to the house I assumed everyone would be asleep. I felt like I could still feel the kiss he left on my head. I walked into the lounge and my dad was sitting there watching tv. He looked up at me with a concerned look on his face "have you been crying?" He asked switching the tv off.
"No I'm just tired" I mumbled back in response.
"What's going on with you recently?" He said standing. I had to get away from this conversation before I cracked
"Nothing dad I'm fine" I replied trying to hold back the tears. He stepped towards me and the concerned look on his face got worse.
"does it have something to do with Max?" he asked. I guess I was naïve to think he was completely oblivious to what was going on between us. I couldn't hold it back any longer my eyes filled and I felt the tears start rolling down my face. I guess this was enough of a response for him because he hugged me. I couldn't even remember the last time my dad showed any affection towards me. This just made me cry even more.
"no one that makes you feel this way deserves to be in your life Kace" he said as he stroked my hair.
"I know dad, I know" I replied through the crying. He was right, I knew he was right but it didn't make it feel any easier.
